Red airbag light 2004 Acura TL
Hello all,
Hope you all had a great labors day weekend!
I was driving to work in the morning when I noticed the red airbag light came on. I researched it on google and here and discovered it could be due to a seat belt sensor gone bad; I plan to take it to the shop to get the code over the weekend and then get it fixed. However, if it's an expensive fix then I won't be able to get it done this month or probably the next and my state safety inspection expires this month. So my question is whether the car will be able to pass the safety inspection with the light on or not. Could you please advise?
Thank you in advance for you inputs.

Check to see if it only comes on when u plug in the drivers seat belt. If thats the case its the seat belt clamp on the seat itself. Mine was doing the same thing, try and blow compressed air in the channel and see if that fixes it. Sometimes dirt get in the there and it doesnt make good contact.

It could be a sensor in the seat belt buckle like you suspect, or it could be one of the sensors in the seat, or another sensor thats not in the interior of the car.
I can tell you that plugging the seat belts in may or may not trigger the light, so thats not always a for sure way to tell which sensor it is.
If it is the seatbelt sensor, they're covered for life, for free, by Honda/Acura.
If its another sensor (like on mine, which had the passenger seatback sensor go bad) it will probably cost some money.
Can't prescribe anything else until you take it to the dealer and have them get the code with their HDS. Should be free to check if you play nice with them.

The same thing happened to my seat belt also, I took my air compressor and blew it out and the light has not come back on since. If it does i will be taking it back to the dealer. Seat belts have a life time warranty as long as you car has a clean title.
