Rear View Mirror stuck on dim

Did a search but did not find exactly what I was looking for. My Rear view is stuck in auto dimming. I tried turning it off but it still the same thing. In some threads with the rear view mirror problem most have suggested a replacement but the dealer will rape you especially if the car is out of warranty and with a slight chance that they might goodwill it ( I have 58K on my 06). Does anyone have a step by step replacement procedure with pictures? I mean is it a 15 minute job?

Thanks

I leave the mirror on dim all the time, even with the tint on my car, it helps with the people who like to drive with highbeams on.

It's actually an auto dimming mirror, meaning that it's either off or auto. During the day, the mirror should go back to normal even in auto mode. Only way to keep it on all the time is to put tape over then sensor.

Thats what I meant, i leave it in auto all the time. But if you put tape over the sensor then it will never dim thinking that there is no lights behind you, the sensor detects the amount of light and adjusts the amount of dimming.
