Rear view mirror rattling?

My rear view mirror rattles like crazy on rough roads. Today I happened to come across a youtube video and the owner of the TL in the video also said his mirror rattled a lot. Is it normal and a new mirror will fix or is there a way to fix the current mirror from rattling? I find it odd since I have never had a mirror rattles like this. Any idea guys? Thanks.

I had it happen to me once and I just jammed it tighter back onto the thingamajig that it's connected to. It's stayed ever since.

Mine does the same, I haven't fixed it yet. It is uncommon enough that it doesn't bother me terribly but I will hopefully be able to get to it before too long.

Glue holds the base to the windshield and the mirror slips on to the base via grooves. pretty much the same way in all cars.
make sure base is properly secured to windshield..then, make sure mirror is attached to base securely by making sure it's in the proper grooves.

check to see if your spring clip hold on to the base metal tab, its happened to me when I replace the HFL so I use a flat head screw driver and bent the metal clip back and no more rocking rear view mirror.

To add to this, if bending the metal clip did not work, then replace it; it's only about $4 and an easy fix.

I tightened the T-20 torx screw after sliding the mirror forwards and off. That's all mine needed. Was nice to not have to jam the mirror tight every 5 minutes like before!

My mirror pulled right out--the screw was MIA.

I did the same with the torx screw (after I found a t-20 torx screw) after my mirror fell completely off! It's tight now, and back in shape.
