Rear Defroster Problem

Just noticed my rear defroster causes lots of radio static and interference when turned on. The defrosters also dont really work too well and take a long time to get working as opposed to how they usually work. I read somewhere that it might be grounding? any info would help, and if its an easy fix, please help with an info on how to do it. really would hate to go to the stealership for this and be overcharged.

I have the exact same issue...rear defroster causes radio interference and performs poorly. When I bought my car with 31k miles I actually thought it didn't work b/c it wouldn't remove frost from the window. Later did a little investigating and found it was working..just not very well. I would love it if somebody knew what the issues were. I know the electrical connection for the heating elements is underneath the rear drivers side pillar cover....

I'm wondering if there is anyway of checking whether there is a short in the heating element leads...or if there is improper grounding? Any electrical guru's out there?

haha i agree, i listen to my ipod usually but there are a few cases in which i listen to the radio just for the hell of it. just annoying thats all, seems like theres a cross between the wires somewhere since the radio antenna is also in the rear window, probably have to get it checked out at the stealer

If your rear window was recently tinted, it's highly likely they damaged the antenna/defroster wires during the tint job.

The plug for both the antenna and defrost are behind the driver's side rear quarter panel. You can remove this panel and visually inspect to see what's going on. From what I remember it would be very hard for the defrost to jump over to the antenna wires.
