I am getting a rattle in my 04 TL from the upper console, where the lights and sunroof switch are located. If I smack the console a couple times it will go away for a bit, but ends up coming back. Is there a good way to fix this?

I dismantled the upper console this afternoon. I couldn't tell exactly where the source of the rattle was so I put weatherstripping tape in the areas that looked like it might rattle. I drove it for about 15 minutes after and didn't hear the rattle but the rattle was intermittent so only time will tell if I got it fixed. It was pretty easy to dismantle the console too.

Unfortunately, I have the exact same problem that is solved temporality with a firm smack to the console. Will give it a shot next weekend armed with weatherstripping. Have you guys made any further progress?

 

Just an idea... I was having the same problem at one point. It sounded like it was coming from behind the Homelink/sunroof switch console. Turned out it was my driver's side sun visor when I had it down. Just moved it one direction or the other, and the rattle disappeared. Not sure if we're talking the same animal here..
