Radiator Problems anyone???

I just got my type s 3 months ago and driving to work I noticed the fans kicking off very frequently, when I got to work coolant was dripping all over the floor. It looks like a leak in the radiator, but has anyone had this happen to them???

No, but did you notice your temp gauge spiking?
Better get it fixed.

no the temp gauge didn't move, I think the problem just started when I noticed it because there was still over half of the coolant in the resevoir tank. It just got towed! Gonna go pick up the loner after work, but man it su**s not to use my new car, but at least it didn't break down when I was driving it.

The res bottle is not designed to keep up with a leak, its job is to hold the transfer when hot and cold levels in the radiator move fluid

Could be a hose clamp loose, could be a hose leak, could be a rock in the radiator.
The shop will pressure test it and know for sure

yea I know that, but I was saying to res bottle was half fun so I caught the problem, before any serious damage could be caused to my car.

I hope its that simple. I am supposed to go out of town in 2 days!!

I see you live in a hot area. Are you sure it was not comdensation from your a/c? Was the water on the passenger side around the back of the right front wheel? When the copmpressor cylces the fans come on and when the compressor stops the fans go off. It can cycle on and off a couple times in a minute.

Was the fluid Blue?? Acrua uses blue antifreeze.

i just got a call from the dealer, apparently a hose clamp broke and hit the fan which shot it into the radiator. How weird, but it will be fixed.

yep- they use the squeeze type clamps at the factory because its faster to install them,
those can break and do exactly what they did!
I use screw type clamps to prevent just such a problem, but I learned that from the racetrack/racecar where everything on the car shakes loose in 30 minutes.

not everything!!!, just the K&N oil filter, because it has the fitting to do so.
And the muffler bearing cap screws of course!

I happen to own 3 sizes of safety wire pliers- how did you know?
