question about foglights....

A while back, there was a guy here with a NBP 3G TL, who had modded his foglights to turn on independently aside from the headlights. Ive been lookin all over the site for this thread and cant seem to find it. I remember he even had pics of it too. I just got my foglights HID on my 04 TL and i want to do this mod. Can anyone help me find this guy or this thread........

Hey GmoAcTL,

Try this link: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ight=foglights

If that doesn't work for you, try doing a serach on all threads in the 3G forum on "foglights".

Good Luck and Happy Motoring!

That would be me.....

Buy a relay from autozone, get some wire if you dont have any, you will need to get to one of the parking light connectors, preferably by the drivers side near the battery, and the drivers side fog light connector. You will need new wire because you are basically splicing into current wires on the fog and parking lights. I just used those little t taps.....

Run one wire with an in-line fuse from the positive battery post to post 30 on the relay.

Run another wire from any ground to post 85 on the relay.

Run a third wire from the positive wire on the parking light connector to post 86 on the relay. Be careful here, there is one black wire and two red wires. One is for the parking light and one is for the turn signal. The one for the parking light is the one on the end of the connector.

Run the fourth wire from the positive side of the fog light connector to post 87 of the relay. The positive on the fog light is the blue/yellow one.

If you want a switch, it would be run from the parking light wire hooked to post 86 to basically interrupt the flow of current through there.

Hope that helps you.....

Here are some pics to persuade you as well....

haha....no problem!

I will soon be adding a switch to mine and cleaning up the wiring a bit just to tidy up. Otherwise, it's been trouble free for about 3 months now.

Hold up! I thought he said FOG lights, not daytime running lights.

At any rate, good write up!

those are fog lights. I have an 05, so I dont get DRL's like the 07's. The 4-06's have the fogs located next to the HID's in the headlight housing. No lower fogs like you 07 guys......it sucks.

johnny--2k's right!

Look at the front on the 04 - 06 lower grills, no fog lights like the 07s. We have the same bi-xenon hid headlights but the one next to them are like johnny--2k said, are our fog lights. They still turn on by the same switch as the 07.

I noticed that the 04 - 06 fogs are more efficient than the 07s. In SF, Ca. we get some really thick fog and the 07 fog lights don't light up (penitrate) as much road to the front or sides as the 04 - 06s do. They could really benefit from a set of aftermarket bulbs!

I don't suppose you know how to make our DRLs put out full power so that we can at least change the color from yellow to...something else?

Interesting thought... typically the DRL circuits use a resistor in line to reduce the voltage to the bulb. Sort of like the old Chevy and Ford ignition systems that dropped the voltage from 12v to around 9v.

If you have a voltage meter, check the voltage to the DRLs to see if it is indeed lower than 12v. If there is full voltage at the bulb, the bulbs may be designed for lower output and maybe a bulb change is all that’s necessary.

Assuming it's in the circuit, and you can get the wiring schematics and are able to locate the circuit, you may be able to wire around it.

Another way which IMHO, is a lot easier would be to use the DRL positive wire to energize a relay wired to the battery and back to the DRLs (fused of course) to provide the full 12V to the bulbs.

Just a few words of caution:

1) Any tampering of the wiring could void your warranty involving any electrical issues.

2) I don't know if the DRL housing can handle the additional heat from an aftermarket bulb or even full voltage on the stock ones. Trial and error baby, that’s what it’s all about!

Good Luck and Happy Rewiring!
