Problem with rotars

So awhile back i had posted about how my brakes were screeching that horrble banshee scream, acura took my car in, and said that they had to resurface my rotars...and they also ended up replacing my break pads with new ones.

now a few months later, the screeching is back, and it reeeeeeal bad....i took it back to acura, and they said that the problem with the screeching is because i do too many hard stops while going at fast speeds.... and they say that they cannot resurface the rotars because it might wear the rotars too thin. they offered to install new rotars, for 950 or something around that.... is this just a gimmick to make me buy new rotars? or is it really true that after a few resurfacings, it really does wear down the metal, and i really do end up having to buy new rotars to stop the screeching?

and if it is true that i need new rotars, how can this not be included in the warranty? The guy at the service center says that acura isnt responsible for wear & tear like this. What should i do?

the guy told me he suggests just keeping the rotars because it's only a sound and doesnt actually effect anything else other than the ears of myself and the people outside.

Well if they did the first cut and slap under warranty the dealer isnt going to do it again for free. You might be able to turn the rotors one more time but may be close to resurfacing limit, and if cut again will proabably start screeching again after a week. Like said above its probably your driving habit, slamming or getting on the brakes hard causes the rotors to heat up and warp and become grooved and the grooves will cause the screeching. If you do indeed buy new rotors go easier on the brakes, because it might just happen again it really doesnt take much.

rotors can only be turned a very limited amount of time, and each time they are turned, they cut the rotor's surface so the groves become smooth. I would suggest that you look n to some after market stuff if you don't want to hassel with this. P heeltoe or excelerate

If you drive your car like you stole it, (e.g. not coasting up to red lights, racing up to stop signs, speeding everywhere, riding the brakes OR slamming on the breaks all the time) then yes, of course, your brakes are going to wear out all the time. It's not a warranty issue beacuse Acura doesn't believe they should be responsible for your poor driving habits.

You can only turn a rotor so many times before they have removed too much material and you just have to get new rotors.

BTW it's "rotor", not "rotar". And it's "brake", not "break"

lol i totally understand the whole reason behind needing to get new rotors. i guess i forgot to add that Acura wants to charge me 1350 for doing all 4 rotors. and that is what really frustrated me.

f*ck that dude... order some rotara performance rotors or other high quality rotors from the internet or somewhere locally. Then either change the rotors yourself (not hard) or, if you lack the tools, take it to a friend that does. Or just take your car to a reputable independent shop. Brakes aren't warranteed so what difference does it make if Acura or somewhere else does it? You'll still get stuck with the bill when they wear out again anyway.

You need the rotors that MrHeelToe sells

go to the top of this page in the black stripe- click Off Topic then scroll down that page and click Sponsored Sales, look down that and see several post about RacingBrake rotors- posted by MrHeelToe

or easier is www.heeltoeauto.com
look in Brakes, Combo Specials
He has deals with Hawk HPS pads and RB rotors
www.racingbrake.com for info on why these rotors outperform all others including rotora

Then go to local race track for High Performance Driving School / track day school
where you get to drive your car on a real race track with a pro race driver in your passenger seat coaching you all the way.
You learn car control and not car thrashing- brakes need respect or will not be there when you need them the most
Cost $250-350 for full day- cheap fun for the learning you get
Let a private shop do the work not the dealer with its high overhead being passed on to you in the form of $90+ per hour labor rate, while a small shop charges 45-70
look in the phone book or ask parts places who is good shop for your install if you cant do it yourself.

IN general- you can resurface rotors- by putting the rotor on a lathe and CUTTING/Shaving off the metal, down past the lowest spot to make flat and smooth again,
ONE TIME on Acura rotors, and most rotors are that way.
After that 2nd set of pads is low- the rotors are also toast

Each time you push the brakes a small amount of pad material AND rotor metal are removed by friction. Push them hard enough and you can cause extreme wear
Heat is the enemy of your brakes
Flush your brake fluid too- probably boiled several times by now!

Totally agree...they are asking too much for replacing rotors, especially if they go OEM. I would say buy some high performance rotors and have a shop that you trust to install them (or you could do it yourself! , but it is time consuming.... ). As 01tl04tl stated, flush out your brake fluid as well, never hurts! Best of luck!

time consuming?
took about 4 hours with major rust problems encountered to do an complete 4 rotors and pads, plus fluid swap, for an 05 TL with Brembo fronts. Less time for regular TL
How long is your car in the shop for the same job?
And I know these brakes were cleaned and greased right, fluid flushed and ready to go have fun. A car I can trust to follow me into the corner!

Lol! Ok, so it really isnt time consuming....But i just thought that for some people, they may rather spend 4 hours doing something else than work on a car (other housework, etc). Personally, i do my own work, and enjoy doing it! LOL! Basically for the same reasons you do. I took about 6 hours on the last successful brake job I did on my sisters car, but that was being interuptted on numerous occasions by family to help with other work, so the brake job felt like an eternity!

I say successful because on our POS 91 corolla, everything that can go wrong is going wrong (breaking tools, stripped bolts, etc cuz the last shop to work on that car reallly F*ed up the brake system in the front)
