Problem with driver side H.I.D
Hello, I just registered in hopes of getting help finding the answer to my problem.
I have a 06 3G TL Base/Nav. The problem started a couple months ago and has only gotten worse. Before the driver side HID would not go on, unless I flickered the light switch 3-5 times, it would eventually go on. Now it takes over 50 flickers for it to go on, and sometimes doesnt even come on. The passanger side works perfect. It's only the driver side that desides to be a pain in the rear!
I was thinking it could be the ballast? Or I think inverter for factory HID lights. Where is the inverter located? How much does one normally cost?
Thank you,
Mike.

FYI, turning on/off HID's rapidly shortens their lifespan considerably! While you have everything apart for fixing, it might be worth your while to put in new bulbs. I HIGHLY Recommend the OSRAM CBI bulbs in 5000K. They are brighter HID bulbs with a SLIGHTLY whiter light than the factory bulbs. They run on the same wattage and these come standard on newer MB's and BMW's.

The problem could be the ballast or ignitor. The easiest way to find out which component is bad is to take the parts 1 by 1 and swap them from left to right. I'd swap the ballasts first and then the ignitor. That way if the problem changes sides you know what caused it.
