Power Steering Pump #4

It's whining yet again.. Pump was replaced about 2-3 months ago for the 3rd time; bringing it in today to drive w/ the shop foreman and see what he says.

Has anyone else had multiple pumps replaced? I'm coming up on 2 years of owning my car.. Can't tell you how happy I am to have an extended warranty but that runs out soon.. what the hell am I going to do when I need a new power steering pump every 3 - 4 months??!?!!?

I'm thinking about calling Acura C/S but I don't know what good it would do.. the dealer replaces the pump, everything is fine, then it starts to whine again and steering starts to bind/feel weird.. It's not like the dealer is refusing to fix it, but it's getting old, and I don't like paying $500 a month for something that breaks on a regular basis.

I do love my car but the repairs are adding up - 3 (4?) power steering pumps, 3 half shafts, front hub/knuckle assy., DMPS controller, Nav controller, Bluetooth unit, Xenon regulator and ignitor, black tape around the rear side windows, etc..

I don't know what to do

i think its odd they're having you pay for it every time. if it was something they fix and it breaks, it should be covered under warranty.

have you gotten the o-ring fix that has been mentioned on here a few times? I had some weird power steering noises, and that o-ring and some new ps fluid made it go away.

So the shop foreman drove w/ me; he confirmed the issue/noise when I did a couple of circles in the parking lot; he said it was odd that the noise did not go away with acceleration (which I guess is normally what happens since it's spinning faster, gets rid of the noise)

I hear it when im turning corners; goes away when the steering straightens out

Dealer called - They found metal shavings in the p/s reservoir. He said they will be replacing the pump, reservoir, p/s lines, high pressure p/s lines, and the entire rack/pinion

Wow damn. Pretty much the whole steering system. Update us on what happens afterwards. When are you bringing it back for servicing?

damn.. they're not messing around. I say if you're in for the 4th time on the issue.. they should definitely start from scratch. I hope it works out for you timmahh.. GL! (la la la la la.. warm it up.. that's so wrong.. lol.)

Speaking in the perspective of a Canadian, I've also had powersteering issues, but fortunately repaired under extended warranty. They first replaced O-ring, but whining was still occuring. Second visit, they replaced the original rubber hose to a metal coiled one since it was an area prone to heat. Filled up the powersteering fluid due to slight leak and problem solved.

Got the car back on my way home.. Mostly freeway driving and it started raining so I haven't really played with it too much but wow the steering is super tight and firm now; like a brand new car!

So far so good (fingers crossed!)

Ok so the steering is great, but the whine while turning under load is still present. I drove w/ the tech again, they're going to put 'chasis ears' on it so they can try and pinpoint what it is.

The problem they have is that they rarely deal with 6 speeds I guess.. So they're not sure what it would be or what to point the finger at right now

Good to see that the dealership is taking this seriously and working with you. Hope they find the REAL issue soon and repair it. Good luck. Please keep us posted.
