Plug Replacement at 47K
I replaced all of the plugs in my 2004 TL today because I wanted to see if it would clear up the rough idle on cold start. Not sure yet if it did but I was wondering if anyone knows why there are two types of Denso Iridium plugs listed for this car and what the difference would be between them. The ones I put in are IK20 with a .044 gap but I found another plug part number SKJ20DR-M13 that is slightly longer and comes with a .05 gap. The car does run fine with the IK20's but I want to be sure they are ok to have in it. I would prefer not to have to do them again as the rears were less than fun to get to. The NGK IR that came out of it looked fine and I know they say they can go 100,000 but I would never take a set of plugs that long and its not such a big deal to replace them. Thanks

I can't answer your specific plug question but...
In case you hadn't seen it in the owners manual or other posts, rough idle on cold start is very normal as long as it goes away when the car warms up. While cold, the ECU is really strictly controlling the car's emissions (the whole ULEV thing). Cold start is where cars spew the majority of their pollutants.
So as long as the car runs fine warmed up you're fine.

You will find that the plug options are based on how you drive and if type S
The denso seem to last about 30k and then toss em
The NGK Iridium say 100- but anything over 60 would be my guess to replace
The rear plugs are a pain so I used the NGKs

Yeah the dealer told me the same thing about the rough idle when cold but i wanted to confirm it. They have also told me that its normal for the transmission to whine but I am not sure of that either. It seems like 1st and 2nd are slightly lower pitched but when it shifts to 3rd you can really notice it. At the same time it seems to shift fine but seems confused slightly at times. The car is 2004 so there was no type S for that year.

Thanks
