PLEASE HELP!! Major Clutch Problem

I have a 2004 TL Sport. It currently has 125,000 miles on it and everything else seems to be in good shape. I have had this problem since about 95,000 miles. This problem would only happen after heavy acceleration, however here lately it has gotten much worse.

Sometimes when i first get in the car, I have to pump the pedal. It is rock hard, and with a few pumps its back to normal. After it is pumped a few times, it becomes drivable. When I'm entering the highway or just accelerating hard, the clutch works until I put it in neutral and let the RPM's come down. The next time I push the clutch, it is rock hard and doesn't engage.

The syncros have taken a hit a few times, but if I'm careful, I can double clutch it. I am not going to risk my transmission. So I am going to stop driving the car.

I flushed the hydraulic system......didn't help
I replaced the master cylinder......... seemed to make it worse
I replaced the clutch hose............. didn't help
pulled the entire hydraulic system and cleaned it. . did nothing
removed the slave cylinder and cleaned it.......... did nothing

The only thing is the clutch. I DO NOT want to do the clutch.

I have seen one post about this and their remedy was replacing the clutch.

has anyone else heard anything about this?
Why is this happening?

Am I overlooking something?

Thanks for the advise

Has anyone encountered this problem

i think it's the clutch.

usually when the MC or SC go it's a limp pedal, not a rock hard one.

if it's rock hard i feel like it's a problem with the pressure plate, especially if you've done all that work to the hydraulic system.

Thats a good idea. it could be that. after racking my brain for a while i think i might have come up with another possible cause. The throwout bearing rides on a shaft. The clutch wearing out sends out dust. Dust accumulated on the lubrication on the shaft causing the throwout bearing to bind and not slide on the shaft. Thoughts?

same fix as the clutch... all is replaced at the same time.. but this makes sense to me.

Thanks for the reply!!

possibly, also the fact that our pressure plates are self adjusting, a number of things could be wrong with it so it gets stuck and doesnt disengage.

completely different in design but my old '93 integra when one of the clutch dampening springs popped out the clutch pedal became very stiff. So maybe in your case something is obstructing the PP or the leaf springs in it are broken.

good luck!
