Please Help- door stuck!

My driver's side rear door won't shut. The mechanism that holds the door shut (underneath the child lock switch) won't release. It just stays shut. (When I go to close the door, it hits the hook instead of latching to it.) The beauty is that when I was trying to figure out how to fix it on the driver door, the same thing happened and now neither door will shut!! I'm a genius! Anyway, it is the weekend and no one is open so I need your help! Thanks!!

Did you try pulling on the outside door handle again after it did this? That should put the catch back in the right position. It sounds like the latch thing has somehow gotten in the closed position while the door was open. If pulling on the outside handle doesn't do it, try moving the latch with a small screwdriver. If nothing else is broken, it should move easily without forcing.

Like Ron said...just stick a screwdriver or similar behind the latch and pull out while you pull on the door handle. It will pop out for you.

BTW: This little trick works with all kinds of latches like this, on ALL vehicles. This includes your trunk and hood latches.
