Pinging sound..after hitting a dip in road - 2005 AT TL
Hey guys I need some help!
I was driving to work morning (around 8 am) about 25-30mph and hit a dip in the road. It made a very loud noise. I immediately pulled over and checked for damaged and didn't see anything. So I continued on and everything seemed fine. The car sounded normal and drove as it should. Later that day (around noon) I drove to get some lunch and noticed the car was making some strange pinging sounds... Its hard to describe but definitely not normal. It would get worse when I turned the wheel to the left or right. Also the sound seemed to disappeared as I drove longer. I had to return to work and try to not thinking about it. So as I was on my way home in the evening, the sound was there again but also stopped by the time I got home.
I have been reading the forums a little bit and think it might be related to the power steering. I never did get the recall taken care of and I did read somewhere that some people experienced this in cold weather and not at all when it isn't cold outside. Today was probably the coldest day of fall. It was around 45-60F out today. Is it possible that the sound is indeed a power steering issue that is completely unrelated to the "bump" I had this morning?
I do keep my TL in the garage so it wouldn't have been cold in the morning.
Any ideas?
BTW It has been a while since I checked all of my fluids. The power steering fluid is almost at the MIN line right now and the coolant is well below its MIN. I plan on filling the coolant first thing tomorrow.

I had a metallic Tick Tick Tick noise whenever I turned my wheel to the left or right, it also used to happen when I engaged my clutch for a normal launch in 1st gear. ( I drive a MT)
I took it to the dealer and they told me it was bad welding of the subframe underbody. They told me they would replace it under warranty. I had the service done and I haven't heard any of the noises since.
Maybe the dip hit your underbody and bent it slightly? I'm not sure, if your car is still under warranty I'd have the dealer technicians take a look.

it could be the exhaust heat shields. if one of them got bent you just have to bend it back. if u have ramps you can check underneath the car yourself with a flashlight.
