Picked up an '04 -- one question

Due to the rising gas prices, I decided to pick up an extra car for commuting and decided to go with 04 TL. It's got a lot of miles on it but I got it for a great price and I plan to rack up the miles with it anyway.

I've done many searches on here and it's obvious that these cars have some vibration issues. However, mine seems to be fairly smooth at hwy speeds as long as I'm above 1500 RPMS. I thought it was in the driveline, but when testing with it in park, there's a horrible vibration between 1200RPMS - 1500RPMS with the 1200RPM range being the worse. The best way to explain is that it's more of a pulsating feeling...heavy vibration for 2 seconds... smooth for two seconds... heavy vibration for 2 secs... etc. when I let the car idle down to it's regular idle (once warmed) it's smooth as silk. It does it when the engine temp is warm and cold. Is this a characteristic of the 3.2vtec? I plan to seafoam it and install new plugs, but is there something else I should check out? I plan to take it to the dealer soon to have a couple recalls done to it, but I'd like to do everything I can before mentioning it to them. Thanks!

The only prominent issues the 3rd Gen TL has is some interior rattles and the typical trans problems.

Sounds to me like the AC compressor kicking on and off.

Thats the best I got....

yes, the vibration is there when driving and when in park. Again, it's only at the 1200-1500RPM range. everything above and below this is very smooth. No compressor noise...everything is off when testing.

Well if its a consistent vibration when in park maybe its a motor mount. Ive heard
a few on here talking about replacing them. Luckily I havent had this problem yet.

Someone want to chime in?

Also heard of an` idle relearn procedure` the other day on here

I would spray clean the Throttle Butterfly plate inside the TB assembly- that gets oil on it during normal use and needs a quick cleaning
then seafoam the intake vac port and gas tank method
if that doesnt cure it, do tell acura- they may have secret tech bulletin on the fix

it's a known problem in the 04s. Mine does it too. It's a motor mount near the tranny or something. I have heard of people getting a bushing put in near the rear mount and it dampens it quite a bit but yes 1500rpm at around 55mph you will feel slight vibration. Give it time and you won't notice it. If you do a search you will probably find some more information on it. Nothing seriously wrong with the car though if it's doing this. It's normal for 04s

check the motor mounts, and if necessary, replace them. IF they are fine, neturalize the motor. IF that does nothing, there is a TSB here for a vibration for 2004 TL owners where they install a weighted dampner on the front of the motor to stop some of the harmonic vibration.

Thanks for all the feedback...I'll seafoam and change the plugs before heading to the dealer. Hopefully it's only a mount or dampner issue.

BTW, are the motor mounts a fairly easy DIY?

There's a GB going on for aftermarket mounts from Innovative.

Check it out:

I had the dampener installed under the TSB for driveline vibrations around 1500 rpm (look in the 3G Garage, the TSB is in there). The dampener reduced the problem, but did not eliminate it. As others have said, get used to it or use manual mode and stay out of that rpm range.
