passenger seat squeaking

All,

Has anyone else had this annoying issue. Whenever a heavier set individual sits in the passenger seat and they saw left to right, the seat squeaks. It's really annoying. Acura said it's a known problem and they will "fix" it by putting a "kit" on it. Not sure what that means. I drive an 06 TL and it is only 1 month old.

Thank you,
Harsh

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm having it with my driver's seat and just made an appointment at Acura of Ramsey in New Jersey to have this checked. I seriously can't drive with the windows closed and radio off because the squeaking is so annoying.

I just don't want them to tell me they can't replicate the noise or not fix it so I'd like to know if anyone else had this fixed...

What I have noticed sometimes in the passenger seat, is if the passenger happens to lean a little to the left, there is a squeak that comes from the bottom of the seat belt rubbing up against the seat. If they shift their weight a little to the right, problem is solved. Don't know is that is what you are experiencing or not. Hope this helps.

I to have experienced this. At first, I thought it was coming from the passenger seat, but upon further examination, it is actually coming from the drivers seat BELT. I weigh about 155lbs, so it has nothing to do with weight. It is the seatbelt mechanism itself. I can recreate the noise while standing outside the car and moving the seatbelt mechanism. The drivers latch seems loose compaired to the passenger. I really haven't noticed it recently, possible because I drive w/ music on and windows open 95% of the time... Next time I take it in for service, I'll have someone look at it.

I checked and I don't think mine is being caused by the seatbelt. The noise sounds like its coming from the back right side of my seat. What's odd is that when the car isn't moving and I try to move around and reproduce the noise I don't hear it. Its the loudest when I'm casually driving around and take turns at whatever speed when my weight and body shift side to side. Its getting worse by the day so the dealer is going to have to do something.

Same problem with my 06 TL. It sounds like plastic against plastic coming from the passenger seat area. I noticed that when I move the passenger forward/backward via the power seat control, the sound disappears for a very short time, then comes back.

Yes. My new '06 TL passenger seat is squeaking also. I can not understand what is causing this? It is very frustrating! I thought maybe, at first - it was the leather? But, I dunno?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I brought my car in to Acura of Ramsey at 7:30 AM and all they did was piss me off. My squeak is weird because I can be rocking in the seat like a crazy person and it will be quiet and then I can be driving at 5 MPH and squeak. And of course, when I brought it it, it was as quiet as can be. Then I took a test drive with this punk who was just an asshole and told me he couldnt hear anything but my engine. I then pointed out the rattle noise by my window others have complained about and he said it was normal. He basically told me I was anal...which I'm really not.

I thought the warranty on such things was only a year like on my 350Z but the service manager told me I had up to 4 years and that hopefully the noise would get worse.

I need to find a new dealer in the area...

Hopefully someone on here figures out how to fix this.

I truly hate when that happens. It's as if the rattle you're trying to locate has a mind of it's own.

I would like to know what the fix is for this.

It's been raining here and my squeak is gone. Guess I need to install a humidifier!

Yeah, I have the exact same problem. My passenger seat squeaks anytime I have a passenger sitting in it, especially when I turn.

I talked to Sterling Acura about it and they said its a known issue and that they do have a fix for it. However, he said that it would take a few hours because it's really hard to pinpoint where the rattle is coming from.

Gonna take it in next Thursday, we'll see what happens.

I *had* the problem. Thanks to this forum, it's gone.

I came across a post that discussed a similar issue and how the person tracked down the issue. I discussed with my service writer what I had read here, and they were happy to take a pass at it.

In a nutshell, here's what I remember:

There is a plastic guide of some sort that slides along the metal rails of the seat. The way to fix it is to remove the seat, and apply a piece of adhesive-backed felt to the plastic guide.

My squeaking first occurred when I had my first "heavier" passenger. The dealership tried to correct the issue by basically tightening all of the bolts. The problem was gone for all of about two days, when it slowly started to come back - even without anyone sitting in the seat. The second trip to the dealer was when they tried the felt tape thing, and it worked. That was like three months ago, and I haven't heard another sound from the seat since.

My car is currently at the dealership for this problem. Hopefully it gets fixed.

My problem seems to be a bit different though. My seat will only squeak if there is nobody sitting it in. It mainly make noise during acceleration, braking, and bumps.

I have the same problem and today I was researching and found this link... Check it out in case you haven't seen it... I've replied to a few folks hoping that everyone having this issues has a chance to try this.

Passenger Seat Squeak...

This didn't fix the squeak... it's inside the seat and it sounds like the springs inside an old matress... Any other ideas???

Keep after the dealer. Here's my suggestion at a verbal approach:

"I would presume that the service manager is aware of the issue, and I know that you are doing what you are able to do based on your resources and information. So, I have to ask at what point does it make sense to directly involve the district rep and/or try another seat?"

This lets them know that you're not bashing them, are happy/willing to work with them, but that you aren't going to settle for it not being resolved.

Thanks for the link. This agrees with what my service rep told me was wrong with my car. They replaced the entire bracket that connects the seat to the car, and my problems have been gone ever since I last posted. I will try that fix should the problem reappear.

Has anyone had any luck fixing the squeak inside the passenger's seat back? Mine sounds like the foam squeaking against the springs.

See my previous posts about this in this thread... Mine sounded exactly the same way, and wasn't coming from inside the seat at all...

I took mine in to the dealer and as soon as the technician sat down he heard the "sqweak"... They ordered a new seat bottom (just the frame) and used the same leather to cover it... it took the 2 days since they had to use an upolster to cover the new seat bottom with my existing leather... Anyways, the "squeak" is gone... I got the feeling they've been dealing a lot with this because of the "no questions asked" service I recieved from the dealer... By the way... the loaner they gave me was an '06 TL just like mine and it had the same problem...

Alright, my car was at the dealership for 3 days for the seat rattle issue and I just got it back. This is what they did:

-They replaced the lower seat frame, the seat pan, springs, and the seat weight sensor.

-They also found the rear seat back to be deformed and removed and replaced that.

I'll also go ahead and include the list of parts and part numbers that they replaced:
QTY PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION

- 1 81110 - SEP - A11 DEVICE, R. 4 W
- 1 81139 - SEP - A11 PAN, R. CUSHION
- 1 81167 - SEP - A12 SENSOR ASSY., W
- 4 90101 - SEP - A11 BOLT, TORX 8X1
- 2 90101 - SDB - L71 BOLT 6X22
- 1 04810 - SB3 - 000 C-CLIP SET
- 1 81128 - SEP - A01ZA BOARD, FR. NH1

Now, I don't know what any of that stuff means...but I guess it might come useful to some of you who need to get it fixed.

This is funny after reading this a couple days ago, my passenger seat started to make noises when someone sat in there, I took it to the dealership two days ago and told the service supervisor and a tech there they tried to look at it and fix it. They basically told me nothing was wrong and just retighten the bolts down. So it started again today so I took it back today with this thread with all the good info and pictures and showed them and the look on there faces where priceless like how did they exactly know what it was, so they ended up ordering me whole new seat and a new seat bottom for it and we will see if it does anything bad thing I have to wait 5 days.

I just got it back recently and have not had any passengers sit in it yet. It doesn't squeak at all when I'm driving...but I'll know for sure when someone sits in it. I will keep you posted.

Mine has stopped making the noise completely since the dealer replaced the bottom part of the seat. They covered it with the same leather so it's a perfect match. Good luck!

Dealer worked on mine today. The seat frame was making all kinds of creaking noises when you would shift your weight. They said this was fixed by a shim. In addition there was a clinking noise from the seat back and it felt like lumbar support wasn't very firm (almost like something was broken in the seat back). They said they tightened the lumbar support. So far both problems appear to be fixed.

Can you post exactly what the dealer did to fix your seat issue per the work order? A scan would be even better. I have this same issue and want to be "loaded for bear" when I go talk to the SA.

Thanks!

Alright, after a lot of testing and driving with many passengers of different sizes and weights, I have come to the conclusion that the seat does not squeak at all anymore. So, all that stuff that was changed definitely took care of the problem.

However, I feel as though my driver's seat is starting to squeak a little bit. Do any of you have that problem?

My driver and passenger seat finally got so bad I brought it to Ramsey Acura and a really nice mechanic/tech came for a ride with me and literally within minutes knew it was the track, put his finger there and was able to reproduce the sofa squeak.

I'm getting new seat tracks for both seat in order to fix the problem. So basically, if you have this problem and the car is under warranty, wait and hope it gets worse enough where they can't help but hear it.

SilverStone is exactly right. I just got mine fixed like 2 weeks ago. The seat tracking needs to be replaced. That will fix everything. You have to love it, 35,000 car that squeaks after a few months of use lol. I LOVE MY TL ANYWAY!!

I just want to share how I got my passenger seat fixed.

Initially they found that a bolt and two grommets were to blame. The bolt was loose and the two plastic grommets were broken. No biggie, they got those replaced and the noise went away.

But the thing is, apparently, when you take apart parts of the seat to get to those said parts, there are sensors that have to be replaced. Because my passenger SRS Airbag sensor indicator on the center console lit up and stayed up. they re-tightened the bolts and it went away, but then the indicator on my dash went up next. it went back and forth like that for the whole day that they tried to fix things and ultimately they called up Acura tech line and they were told to replace the entire bottom assembly - sensors, guides and all.

For all the wait, they gave me an 07 RDX loaner. I got nary a hassle, Wes from the service department was pleasant and great to deal with. They had to keep the car just overnight since the parts were ordered next day. After the new parts were installed and test driven, the noise was gone and all systems were go.

The parts replaced on my RO were the following:

1x 81110-SEP-A11 DEVICE. R. 4 WAY
1x 81167-SEP-A12 SENSOR ASSY., WEI
1x 81168-SEP-A12 SENSOR ASSY., WEI
4x 90143-SR3-000 BOLT-WASHER 10x2
4x 90135-S7A-J51 BOLT-WASHER 10x2

The description were as follows:

CUSTOMER REPORTS THAT THE RT FRT SEAT RATTLES MOST OF THE TIME, EVEN WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN IT. HINGE LOOSE AT RT LOWER SEAT BOTTOM CORNER. REMOVED SEAT FROM CAR AND TIGHTENED LOOSE SEAT FRAME TO RT TRACK BOLT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND PLASTIC GROMMET BROKEN AT HINGE AREA. REPLACED GROMMET AND TIGHTENED ALL FRAME TO SEAT TRACK BOLTS AND INSTALLED HINGE AND SEAT.

It was my first warranty experience at South Coast Acura and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. I initially had my A-spec front lip done by them about a couple wof weeks before I brought the car in for service. That was initially when I met Wes and he was extremely helpful. Thats why I didnt hesitate to bring the car in for the warranty fix. They took real good care of me and I cant be happier now that the rattle is gone.

Thank you for posting this. Today I unbolted my seat and put adhesive felt on all the places where the seat contacted the frame. I could clearly see where the seat was grinding against the frame (as stated in your post). I also found that one of the bolts on my railing was lose. It was the Torx 30 bolt on the front of the railing (facing the front of the car). I tightened this bolt as it was also the source of a squeak every time I pushed on the seat.... this, plus the clicking fix has solved my passenger seat issues! Thanks again for posting!
