P2195 Code TSB or O2 sensor?

Light came on for the first time since I've owned the car. Called up dealership since I'm out of warranty its $120. They will not release previous owner service record so I'm out of luck. No way to tell if the PCM has been updated to new software. Could the o2 sensor really be bad? Acura calls it a MIL but my CEL did come on with P2195.

Going to take it to the dealer this week. I tried calling several dealers and found out they cannot look up TSB info either. Doubt dealer will do any good will considering age of car and mileage.

You might be able to call up acura corporate and see if a warranty claim was made on your VIN number for this repair. After all there should be a record somewhere since Honda/Acura had to pay for the warranty work at some point.

If they can't assist you either, I'd suggest asking if honda would split the cost of the update with your or goodwill it and see if that corrects it. If not then you'll probably need to get the sensor replaced.

This PCM update is not a warranty recall. It is a TSB. Those are not tracked by corporate. Either way if the update hasn't been done I need it. I can replace the rear 02 sensor myself if the PCM update doesn't take care of it. I will try to see if they help out with the costs today.

The dealer where the previous owner had it serviced would still have a record of the PCM upgrade if it was done. I can't believe that they won't look up the VIN# and tell you. You are not asking for any personal information, just a yes or no if the work was done. I suspect you are talking to the wrong person. Be sure you talk to the service manager and then go to the general manager.

At worst case, push for goodwill before you waste money on an O2 sensor. At that point, they will be forced to check if the work was already done before going to the District Parts and ServiceManager (or Zone Office) for approval. The dealer has no say in goodwill approval/refusal. If the DPSM doesn't approve goodwill, start a case with ACS. This is a 0.9 hour easy job and it fixes a known issue with the ECM programming. I really don't see any reason for them to refuse goodwill if it hasn't already been done.

If it turns out that the work was done, then it might be the O2 sensor. I'd certainly rule out the TSB before replacing the O2 sensor.

I already tried calling several dealerships from previous owner. TSBs are just bulletins on how to perform the procedure. Previous owner service records are not allowed to be released per some stupid law. There is no way to get the software version unless the dealer hooks up the HDS to the car and reads what I have. The one dealer I called, the service guy looked up my VIN thru the corporate database and only the recalls were completed.

I had to cough up the $120 for the PCM update. The MIL light actually went off on the way to the dealer. Either way they wanted to charge $120 diagnostic fee or $120 to update the PCM. How does one look up the local Zone Office? I probably could have called Acura Corporate to start a case but I read bunch of threads saying they got denied.

Dealer did a full diagnostic on the car. The P2195 was stored in the DTC. They recommended replacing the faulty o2 sensor B1 S1. They wanted $325 to replace it. I said no way. He gave me the freeze data for the PGM-FI and I don't see how the readings say my AF B1 is bad. Both AF B1 and AF B2 say 1mA. I read online when the air/fuel mixture is balanced it should produce no current. When the air/fuel mixture is lean, the sensor produces a "positive" current that goes from zero up to 1.5 milliamps as the mixture becomes almost air.

I might just replace the O2 sensor. It's not uncommon for it to go bad over 100k miles. But then again when O2 sensors go bad the car usually runs rich not lean. The lambda also shows it is above 1.0. Who knows how to read freeze frame data?
