P0430 Code

Been getting this P0430 code for the last 3 months (each time on its own); erased through an OBD reader the last two times but came on for a third time last night. Basically all I know is the code relates to a "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2".

Either the CAT is bad or a bad 02 sensor. Here's where it gets confusing, after I cleared the code and went to do an emissions check a few weeks ago, the car ended up passing. MPG also remains normal nothing too out of the ordinary. Can someone please guide me in the right direction?

Im near the emissions warranty threshold right now and if I fix the 02 sensor and clear the code and go over the allotted mileage, I may face a hefty repair bill for a bad cat later down the line. If its the cat, I may as well get it warrantied now.

Has anybody experienced the same code and can share their story? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Someone please help!!! Thanks in advance.

Im having the same kind of problem, P0430, except im having a fuel consumption problem. I dont see any fuel leaks, everything is working normal, throttle response is normal but my gas mileage is in the crapper right now. I just went 36 miles and used about 1/3 of a tank of gas. Only light i have is the P0430 active and stored. Cleared them and it comes back in 10-15 mins of driving. Runs smooth, strong. just heavy fuel useage. Whats causing this?

Bad 02 sensor = computer doesn't know how to properly control fuel = bad fuel consumption. Have you replaced your o2 sensors?

Not sure this matters or not, but on mine, i did wash the engine and had the intake runner position motor off (timing belt and ps pump job), thought i got it back on wrong but its correct and functioning like it should. Im going to unhook the battery and see if that helps, do a full reset.
