Question optically distorted windshield

Foolishly didn't drive it before signing all the papers and brand new 06 TL has
distorted windshield, it makes you feel like your eyes just won't focus correctly.
I'm afraid the dealer conveniently won't see it, but if they do, have been told that
replacing a windshield isn't the best option as it's a structural issue and can wreck
the seal. Opinions ? It only has 20 miles on it, think a replacement vehicle is
an option ? Anyone else have this problem with a TL ? Saw that it's very
common in the Acura MDX.

Mine has a couple distortions near the right edge and the bottom edges, but they haven't bothered me as they're way on the periphery of my line of sight.

by the sea,

The bad news is that once you drive the car off the lot it's yours....if there is anything wrong the dealer is only required to fix what is wrong. I bought a new VW Jetta GLX several years back and it died the same day I drove it off the lot. Turns out that it had a defective alternator....so it had major surgery it's first day to replace the alternator, I could not get a replacement car.

The good news is that whatever fix they do, they are responsible for seeing that it's fixed correctly which means that any problems with seals, etc that MIGHT occur they would also have to fix. Windshields are replaced all the time, I would not worry about the seals or anything else. By the way....that was really the only problem that I ever had with that Jetta, it turned out to be a very reliable car.

Now if the engine was shot in your car or the transmission.....that might be a large enough defect to warrant a replacement vehicle under Lemon Laws...but I am not sure.

I'm sure once you get your windshield replaced you will be very happy.

I have had 5 windshield replacements on my 07 TL. I see wavy lines of distortion on all of them. They offered to replace the car but the replacement car had it as well. They offered to buy back the car, but I'd rather keep the TL than look for another vehicle with a good windshield but hate the car. I guess I'll learn to live with it. And I guess not too many others see it because it is not a widespread problem reported on this site. I'm a videographer, so perhaps my eyes are more sensitive.

I see the distortion as well btw. It is only if i view at angles +- 45 degrees from 90 (facing the windshield. I guess I can live with it as well.

Same problem on my '05. The problems is all in the QC at the facility. Some places are only required to check specific areas in the glass for thickness variances, not ALL of the glass. If they can't find a decent replacement with 1 or 2 tries, make them use a different manufacturer because they will use different QC practices. I had to eventually get a Dupont windshield because we couldn't get a piece of glass w/out thick spots. Its a cost - cutting measure along with thin rotors.....ugh.
Keep in mind that most insurances will replace your windshield free if damaged beyond a repair
