39800 miles on it. I can best describe it as a cross between a hissing sound and the rattle from a rattlesnake. It happens as the car gets close to shifting from 1st to 2nd.. and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd, but goes away after the car's been running for a while. No issues with the smoothness of the shifts or any weird feelings in the way the car accelerates and channels the engine power through the transmission (that I can feel), but the noise I described, when it occurs, can be heard both inside and outside the car (unless I have music playing).

I'm considering taking it to the dealer, but they're 40 miles away.. after such a drive, when they take it out to listen for the noise, they likely won't hear it because the car will have been driven too recently.

Anyone else have a noise like this? I wouldn't describe it as a whine or even a tick, as I've read about in other transmission noise threads.

I should also mention that I had the transmission fluid changed by the dealer at around 35K miles. The noise was present before the fluid change.
