NYC TL OWNERS- step inside!

hey guys, Im new to acurazine but frequent maxima.org so im familiar with the whole forum scheme. i did a search but nothing came up, How is the TL, 04-08, on NYC Streets? my main concern is suspension feel and reliability. Im coming from a 2k Maxima and it was horrible for Nyc... Any Input?

With the stiff TL suspension and "weak" wheels, you'll not enjoy the TL in the city as the wheels bend easily with the low profile tires. My daughter has a 2K Maxima with 165K, no problems whatsoever. Our TL with 60K has needed 3 wheels in that time. Only car I've ever owned that has had a bent wheel! I'd suggest you look elsewhere, or get some wheels that are stronger although possibly heavier.

I live in Queens and travel to the city from time to time and never bent a rim, but I can say the suspension is a little rough with these huge craters they call potholes here in NYC. I plan on upgrading soon anyway. Just my

I bought an 05 TL from an Audi dealer in New York. Car has less than 30k miles on it and the front shocks are completely shot, rears are pretty worn too. And it's not abuse related, because the car is in otherwise fantastic condition minus the usual rattles (probably also courtesy of NY).

I agree with the bent rims on the TL. Had this problem on my 2nd gen and on the 3rd gen. And I'm talking with stock wheels, not with my RJ's.

As long as you're not completely slammed....you'll be fine with the TL.

thanks for the input guys. I really like the TL but i dont want to buy a car that i have to worry about suspension squeeks, bubbled tires and bent rims. I always try to avoid pothole but alot of them are impossible to avoid. I went through 3 different suspensions on the max (stock, Tokico blues and KYB agx) along with contol arms, bushings and engine mounts.

Dude.. this isn't so easy when you're merging onto the Van Wyck at 60mph and all of a sudden you see it with no time to react without causing an accident. Of course, people who bend their rims while doing 30mph driving around in the city.. now that I don't get. All my rims were always bent on highway..never on local streets.. I'll hold up traffic if I got to go around a pothole.. I dont give a F.

I even bent my RJ rim. Whatever its fixed now and its the price we pay to look sexy.. so its all good. I wouldn't have it any other way.

The condition of NYC area roads is the reason I never upgraded to the A-Spec suspension. With all these craters and bumps, the last thing I want to do is lower the car. I've already shed 3 wheels in 5 years.

pot holes man... I hit a big pot hole in the bronx near the 3rd ave bridge. It was enough to cause me to slow down and question if something happend. Good thing no bent rim/flat tire. I just keep my stock rims and a good pair of tires.

i live in bk... possibly the most potholed borough of them all...lol, never bent a rim or blew a tire because of these god-forsaken potholes... but the question ur asking really boils down to the type of driver u are

we all know avoiding every pothole u see is impossible, and u also have to remember that when it rains & pours ur more likely to hit a pothole thats full of water that u didnt know was there...

so i'd get the TL and just keep ur eyes open.

Everything stated before is true...

These potholes are no joke, but honestly... And I mean this in a serious way... It don't matter what car you get, these potholes don't discriminate

I had the TL-S in NYC for 3 years and never once bent a rim... cuz I switched rims every 3 months

Driving in NYC for 20+ years and never bent a rim. Don't drive like you stole the car and you should be fine.
