Noise when full lock steering

I have noticed, especially when I have not driven the car for a few days that when I make tight low speed turn that front end makes a thumping noise. This sound is similar to a fwd car that had a bad cv joint. The sound is similar to the sound when the VSA kicks in. Anyone else notice it when you full lock the steering wheel. Car is an '07 type S mt with 18k.

^ I sorta had this when I full locked right for a U turn or something. I heard this metal on metal sound click click click click... but I coulda sworn it was my wheel hitting something. It wasn't a thump. I just took my wheels off inspected everything underneath and re-torqued the wheels. The noise is gone.

Usually when you are at full steering wheel lock and there is a noise, it is a power steering pump problem, but that is usually a "whine". I don't know about a "thumping" noise.

No,it's not metalic and it's not the power steering pump noise. It really sounds like the VSA is kicking in.

thumping front - but not like metal grinding? could be hub bearings. I'd get your cv joints and hub bearings checked out.. have you hit any huge potholes lately? Make a lot hard turns at full throttle?

You also said it occurs more after you have left the car sitting for several days.. what's the temp there? Sounds peculiar.

..also.. the abs pump would be felt at the rear I believe.. could be a bad sensor engaging it though.. are you pressing on the brake as well as turning?

...then go get it checked out from your stealership, yer under warranty. Another member w/ fairly few miles (few thousand) on this board w/ his TypeS had busted CV joints.. there's only so much you can do with words online to describe a sound you hear in your ride.

- you said it.. a whirr a whizz a whine a clank a grind a screech a creak a rattle a boom! ..

if you're under warranty.. definitely take it in.. I'm skeptical that they will find the issue unless it is a frequent / consistent problem. Tell the service writer you want to take the tech for a ride to pinpoint / illustrate the problem. I've theorized that many 3G TL owners suffer from stiff boot grease in temps below 5 degrees which give similar symptoms to a failing cv joint [creaking / grinding metal].

Thanks for everyones input. I am leaning towards stiff grease in the CV joint/boot. The issue seems to occur more when it is cold. Also yesterday it occured when I pulled out of the driveway but could not duplicate it after I got to work.
