Noise in Reverse.. I've search and found no answers..

OK, I've searched and some of the advices has been anything and everything (brakes, motor mounts, fuel pump, etc)...

So, the issue... When in Reverse, I hear a whining noise like bad fuel pump whine but only in reverse. I really can't believe its a fuel pump... as it only happens in reverse... never when in drive.

I've checked my transmission fluid and looks to be fine. All service including all the fluid change was done about 2 years ago.

Any suggestion?? I've searched and many had this issue but I am unable to find the correct solution.

Thanks!

Most Japanese cars I've ever driven have a pronounced gear whine in reverse. If this is what you're referring to, I think it's quite normal.

problem located!! I let my wife get in the car and try this and the problem is....

front brakes.

I would of never guessed it would only make this noise in reverse. I didn't have time to really check it today but its definitely coming from passenger front brakes.

The rear brakes will do the same thing when they are worn out as well. In my case the RR caliper piston was frozen and causing the noise in reverse (at first), then while moving forward after it wore even further.

The brakes could either be worn or incorrectly installed. There is a metal piece (not sure which it is/what its purpose is), that can easily get bent when installing the pads. I installed pads on my old '04 TL and it did this when only in reverse. Took the pad back off, found it, immediately resolved the issue. Glad you found it!
