Noise from rear

My 06 TL makes squeak or clunking sound every time i hit a bump from the rear. Sounds like its coming from both wheels. The larger the bump there tends to be the clunking sound thats pretty loud but when its a small bump its an annoying squeak. What could be the potential problem?

a bad strut could cause the clunk noise almost all the time. Left, right or both sides?

I'd look at the sway bar links first, then a possible worn or loose shock mount, then on to a possible worn bushing. When checking the suspension components, the car must be loaded, weight on the suspension as if the car were sitting on the ground, so put it up on ramps. Worn links are difficult to determine as it's hard to mimic the suspension movement while under the car, or even while pushing on the body to simulate movement as it is a 3600 lb vehicle.
