Noise coming from belt side

08 Type-S, 86K.

I have this noise that's coming from the belts side of the engine, the noise coincides with RPMs, and i can hear it very clearly going through tunnels or passing by parked cars on the passenger side.

In the first video, you can hear the it quiet down as the mic goes to the driver side of the motor, then loud again to where the source (i believe) of the sound which is where the pulleys and belts are.

In the second video, i rev the motor a little, and you can again hear the chatter as the RPM's rise.

Does anyone have any insight as what it might be? I do plan on bringing it to the dealer to have it checked out, but wanted some opinions beforehand.

Thanks in advanced, and any opinion is greatly appreciated.

Could be a lot of things. Although there's no squeal or chirp, it could be a pulley with dying bearings. Could also be the water pump (I've heard some grind).

Is your coolant level normal?

Yeah, coolant is normal, and level has not changed at all.

I've had chirp come and go from time to time, but could never replicate it at the dealer.. so i just left it alone. It happens when it's cold and when it's warmed up aswell, and it just comes and goes..

That could well be the belt then.

Look at that test as well as general knowledge regarding belt noises:

Normal reply/test is to remove the serpentine belt, start engine and listen.
Noise gone, pulley outside, spin pulleys manually and listen, noise still audible, timing belt area.

Thanks for the replies, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy and that this noise is, in fact, not a normal noise. Once again, thanks for the suggestions!

I'll be bringing it back to the dealer, and will update this if they, or I find out what the cause of this is.

Hey guys, I believe I have the same problem. I have a 2007 Type-S (111K) and every time I fire her up in the morning, it makes a squealing sound like that. Usually lasts 15-20 minutes, they goes away as she warms up and starts driving. I've had the 105K done and also got a new radiator installed. Interestingly, this sound used to come before the 105K. After I got it done, it never came or would only last a minute or two after I started the car in the morning. Now it's been happening a lot the last couple of days.

It's getting cold and humid? Chances are it's related to serpentine belt. Take it off (while the car is off hey!) then turn the car on. You'll isolate if it's that or something else.

Update: I just came back from the dealer, and what it turned out was the power steering pump was bad, and was off alignment causing the belt to rub i guess. However, when they replaced the pump, they heard another noise that the first noise was masking, and turned out to be the drive belt tensioner, so that was replaced aswell.

----

Installed: 56100-RDB-A01RM :P/S PUMP
Installed: 31170-RCA-A04 :TENSIONER, AUTO

both where covered by my extended warranty from Zurich. I paid out of pocket for the misc. things like the belts, a new tank, suction hose, etc..

Good thing about the warranty, and I think I deserve a chocolate bar for the misalignment guessing.
