New brake pad recommandations?

Alrightt, soo it seems like im going to need new brake pads soon. I just bought the car around 2months ago, its an 04. So what brake pads should i get?

Mainly what im looking for is life time and performance. And I live in Canada so brakes that dont have good bite in the cold are just a no.

Right now im looking at a pair of Stoptech Street Performance Brake Pads. Reviews? Recommandations?

Thanks in advance guys.

any pad will stop the car.
the only way to figure out if you like the pad is try them, as every one else will be biased towards the pad they use.

with that being said; i used the the pad in question on the rear.
I hated them because they dusted like a motherfucker, and opted for a ceramic pad.

Got a set of powerstop ceramic pads with the drilled and slotted rotors. So far in the very cold Northern States been getting great stopping from them. Very happy.

^stopping distances are attributed to Tires!!!
no traction = no stop!

^^ this.

brake pads and rotors will not magically shorten braking distances if there is a lack of tire traction.

This. With all pads come trade offs. First, you'll have to identify what your options are (Hence the transmission question) and then identify what's important to you. Performance and longevity can be had together, but at the expense of other qualities. I think the OEM Brembo pads (6MT) do good in both of those categories, but the tradeoff is that they ejaculate a pound of dust on your wheels every trip, even when downshifting properly.

Akebono ProAct ceramics are on my TL now-- easy to modulate and less dust than OEM.
However, I'm in SoCal (it's 70*F right now) and have no idea how these pads work in temps consistently below freezing.

Welcome to AZ.

No, it's not supposed to be this stressful. You're overthinking it. Go to your local auto parts store or online and get a set of pads. Get ceramic if you don't want a lot of dust. I have those Stoptech pads you mentioned. They work fine.

Hahaha! Don't worry man, unless you get some no-name shit from a cholo on the corner, you'll be fine. You can't go wrong with the OEM pads, people run Stoptech, people run Duralast Gold (Autozone), and then you have all sorts of other options too. I run OEM and I'm very satisfied. Probably switching to Stoptech this summer because I'm going for the XLR8 package that comes with them.

It's actually Duralast Gold CMAX.

There's about a $20 difference between Duralast Gold and Duralast Gold CMAX.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...mString=search

I have the Gold CMAX for my front pads. Had them on for 9k miles now and I don't have any complaints. They don't make any noise at all.

I have 80k miles and still have stock front and rear rotors and stock rear pads. I changed out my front oem brake pads for the Gold CMAX at 71k miles.

^Oh shit thanks bro. I only knew from lurking the forums. My bad!

I have 83k miles, original front rotors, rear rotors, and rear pads so we're almost brake brothers! Going to service all brakes this spring/summer.

AKEBONO

I originally got some CMAX gold to replace OEM, and they stank like crazy after any spirited driving. Also got some clicking issues, using a minimal amount of disc-brake-quiet. Returned those for full price afterwards, and got some Akebono's on amazon on-the-cheap. They have a super aggressive bite at high speeds and aren't too cumbersome around town. They've also lasted nearly twice as long as any other brake pad I've used. Highly recommended. My rotors on the otherhand are junk, I went for the premium coated Centrics and they've been replaced twice in under 30k miles. Gonna shoot for some Brembo Blanks next time since the Centrics are already warped again. The OEM rotors were so nice

Just get the stockies on there if you want to save yourself a headache. Almost any performance pads out there will give you good grip when they warm up, but the initial bit will be a bit compromised. I would go with Racingbrake ET300. Almost same as stock as far as dust and wear goes, but they bite a little better when warmed up.

yes, make sure you get the right type. The clerk should be able to find ones specific to the Type S or M/T (Sport)

[QUOTE=photog;14850915]AKEBONO[\QUOTE]
thanks for the info, have to take a look at my suspension 1st before I go directly to the brake pads. If the brakes still shake after I've fixed the suspension, going to cut the oem rotors and order some akebono.
