new 2007 TLS with weird engine idle

Hi guys!

Just bought my 2007 TLS and it has this weird idle cycle. When the climate control is on, with A/C and without, the engine will idle and then every 30 sec's or so it will instantly drop down to about 500 rpm's like it is about to stall and then back to idle. It does this cycle continuously until the climate control is shut off.

I am wondering if this is normal?

Also, I am a bit dissapointed in the quality of Acura because during the delivery/inspection i found out that all 4 doors were totally misaligned from the factory and the paint was cracking/peeling in several spots as if it had been hit by ice impact....hail storm in Honda Ohio Plant???

Does anyone know what the correct steps the dealer will take to fix this?

Other than that I am trying to stay positive about this and I love the car

I bought a truck at night right after a hurricane in florida (not too smart) but when I picked it up I noticed ALL kinds of chips on one side I just took it back and wanted a new truck or new pait... well they painted it but it took somewhere in they neigborhood of 4 weeks it will take a LONG time to get it painted... dealerships always drag thier feet when it comes to warranty

I would disconnect the battery for 30 seconds and then reconnect the battery and redo the idle learn proceedure, they might have not done this or right during the pdi procedure. During idle learn make sure all lights, radio, a/c is off at the time, let the car idle till the fans cycle twice, then i usually let it sit a little bit longer. This should make the car idle perfectly, if you dont want to do it i would take it to the dealer and let them deal with it!

Thanks so much, that sounds completely logical! I'm going to bring it to my dealer and beeeyootch the crap out of them. Here in Canada our freight and PDI is like $1775CDN and they still dont do it right. Those bastars!

Thanks for that info, i really appreciate it. Now if they can fix my paint damage i will be really happy!

Not sure about acura's but for hondas when the technician is performing a pdi there is a checklist that must be completed and signed, it should be with the owners manual. I believe it is the maintenance booklet, not sure if acura has this but it should since it is a honda.

u make sure everything is totally off in the car radio ac lights doors closed......when the car is cold u turn it on let it idle for 10 mins.....then u bring the rpms to 2800 - 3000 and keep it there for about a minute...shut the car off with the rpms at 2800 - 3000 take ur foot off the gas at the same time and the idle learn should be completed.....thats the quick way i do it....the dude at acura showed me. in the service manual it shows something along the lines but with 2 diff idle positions.... he said it doesnt matter becuz at 3k is when the power starts kicking in...whatever he meant by that I dont know but it seeems to work.

You mean I should turn OFF the car at 2800-3000 rpm's and take my foot off the gas?? Isnt that bad for the engine?

If i were you i wouldnt listen to that acura dude, some is right, here is the correct way directed by honda and acura...
1. Make sure all electrical items are off. (A/C, audio, window defogger, lights, etc.)
2. Reset the ecm/pcm via HDS or by Disconnecting the battery for 30sec. (At PDI no need because idle isnt learned yet.)
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) and wait for 2 seconds.
4. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3k rpm's without load (in park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until the engine coolant temp. reaches 194 Deg. Farenheit.
5. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with throttle fully closed. Also during this time if the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes.

Also the things that are done and inspected during PDI, install fuses given, check all fluids, such as engine oil trans, coolant, brake fluid, etc. Set radio stations and time. Make sure all buttons, switches, lights. Also check all compartments operation, door handles, windows, moon roof, homelink, navi, voice controls, check interior for imperfections and exterior paint for defects and dents or scratches. Set tire pressure to door spec, torque lug nuts to vehicle spec. Complete idle learn proceedure, and vehicle CKP. And just a visual inspection of fluid leaks, make sure everything is the way it should be on the inside, outside and undercarriage or vehicle. Then complete the PDI checklist for the vehicle, i think i almost covered everything these are just somethings you can check to see if they were done by the dealership during pdi!

Xx06SickspdTlxX,

Thanks for that! I actually did it your way and it worked fine, didnt rev it to 3000 RPM, just let it idle like you told me until the fans cycled on twice. The car seems to be idling fine now and it is all thanks to you!! The best part of owning an acura is not the car but the great people on this Forum.

Oh yeah, to anyone that is new to this, remember to reset your power window switch after you disconnect the battery. My Auto up/down did not work afterwards and i did the reset procedure as outlined in the manual!
