New 06 TL (< 1000 Miles) Tranny Clunk

So on my new 06 TL when I shift gears between drive and reverse, or reverse and park, or basically reverse and anything about 50% of the time it makes a very noticable clunk. I assume this isn't a good thing and it is loud enough to hear it from inside the car with the radio on. I scheduled an appointment, but what should I expect? Should I push to have the tranny replaced?

Odd. I'll just wait to see what they say, but it just doesn't sound like a noise you want coming from the transmission.

I had the clunk and it was a very easy fix. Before putting in park, hold brakes down and pull up parking brake, then put into park. For going from park to revere or drive, push breaks, shif to gear, then remove parking brake. TL has not made a clucnk since. Its an 04 with 26k.

^^ Hey I do the same thing with my TL I thought I was just wierd, maybe I still am . Anyways my 04 TL and my 03 Accord(Auto 4 banger) both make that sound and my dealer told me that its normal and there is really nothing they could do. Its really loud if you park you car on a steep hill. My Accord has 60k plus miles and My TL just hit 42K, no problems with either trannys.

I am no tranny expert, but i think the clunk is caused because when the car is parked, the car either moves slightly forward or back, putting an extra load on the trannsmission. So when you try to get out of park, the tranny has to work a bit harder to switch due to the extra weight.

The clunk in normal. With that being said, there is a sevice bulliten that pertaines to that issue. The bulliten says how to adjust the motor mounts/transmission mounts to help with the noise.

Thanks for the info. I am going to take it in next monday and just let me them see if they can at least minimize it. But it is good to know that it is at least normal. Thanks.
