Need help, guys

Not sure how this happened but radiatior fan broke and punctured the radiator. I was unware of when this happened but I was cruising on the highway when I noticed the temp guage rising slightly above normal. Pulled over, popped hood and noticed radiator barely had any coolant. I was in the middle of nowhere on an empty highway that barely had any lights. So I decided to let the car cool off a bit and then see if I could make it off the highway without the car overheating to have a closer look. I only made it maybe a half a mile when I saw the the temp needle reach 3 quarters to max. I pulled over again and had the car towed to a mechanics shop at which point I learned the fan had broke and punctured the radiator. What I am concerned about is my engine. Could I have damaged the head or engine from overheating? What I am sure of is that the radiator damage occured even before getting on the highway. When I got on the highway I noticed in my rear view mirror what looked like steam but it wasnt to the point where I thought something is wrong with the car. I just assumed maybe it was condenstation from the tail pipes. Which means I drove about 40 miles with coolant leaking. Within that 40 miles I also redlined the car once bringing the car to 130mph on a straight run. Never did I notice the temp guage rise. It was only when I was cruising at a lower speed at around 35 to 45mph that I noticed the temp rise. My concern is I could have been driving with no coolant at all for about 40 miles and the only cooling I could have had is the cold air from outside coming in. Can any damage to the engine occur this way?

Yes it can...but it wouldn't be a mystery to you at this point. You'd have some sort of signs.
More than likely the air was still cooling the fluid...and circulating into the engine.

If the temp gauge never got above 3/4, you should be fine.

Sorry, I don't but very popular opinion is to stick with the stuff from the Acura or Honda dealer. If you can wait that's what I'd do. Otherwise you'll probably end up flushing out the non-OE stuff soon enough for OE.

Also, not sure what year you have but check out the first post of this thread. https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...diator-934502/. I thought of it when I read your post and wondered if you have a year with the emblem and if it could have fallen off and caused all the mess. I may be way off but it popped into my mind when I saw your post

Yeah, would love to see pics of the damage and breaking point.

I'd stick with the OE stuff too.

^^^Holy cow, a loose emblem can cause this...wow. Just 07-08 guys have this issue then?

I'd go Rock Auto and buy in their mid range.

EDIT - Wonder if it was an animal that was wedged in there and was released after it broke???

Do you guys think I should replace both fans? Or just the one that broke. Are these things known to just break on their own?

Denso is OEM, from what I have read on here. Rockauto seems to be the cheapest...

Sometimes Amazon has cheap Denso radiators (cheaper than Rockauto that is).

Denso is the OE supplier so buy it
