Need Help - Automatic Transmission Won't Shift
I need some help, I will be taking my car (05 TL Auto) in to the dealer for the third time tomorrow for the same problem.
A couple weeks ago my VSA, Engine light and Warning light came on all at the same time and the car would not accelerate. When I put it in triptronic it is stuck in 3rd and won't shift up or down. When the car comes to a stop it is still stuck in 3rd so I have to get up to speed from 3rd....
I took it to the dealer and they said the Throttle body was defective so they replaced it for a couple hundred bucks. This past Sunday the same thing happen again, when I took it in they said they "think" some caps were loose but they could not tell for sure. They reset the computer and the car drove fine till tonight when it happened again. Same exact problem stuck in 3rd and the dash lite up the same.
Has anybody run in to this problem before? I would really appreciate any insight in to why this might be happening.
Thank you

This is your problem according to the Acura service manual. How many thousand miles are on the car? Honda/Acura doesn't like to replace solenoids on cars with more than 20k miles, but considering it's a $30 part, I'd definitely start there. Check the second o-ring on the solenoid. The parts catalog shows that Honda/Acura has updated this part; there must have been something wrong with the first version which is most likely in your car.

The alternative that Acura will propose is to replace the transmission. Replacing this solenoid and/or o-ring might be something you can easily do yourself. Fyi, if you remove the solenoid to replace one o-ring, you must replace all three ($1 a piece).
Solenoid Assy A: 28400-P6H-013
O-ring (11.7x1.9): 91303-P6H-003
O-ring (9.6x1.9): 91302-P7W-A00
O-ring (7.6x1.9): 91301-P6H-003

If you don't already have it, you can download the service manual from here. This troubleshooting information is on page 14-15.
