Navigation Problem - Keeps Rebooting Any electronics expert help is appreciated!

Issue- Intermittent problem. Keeps rebooting. Sometimes upon vehicle start will ask for anti-theft code and will re-load from scratch. Sometimes it will work fine for 20 minutes and then reboot during travel.

Troubleshooting-
1. DVD has no scratches.
2. Connections to trunk DVD player appear OK.
3. Nav Diagnostics (Menu, guide, cancel) seem to check out when able to access it:

Next steps?
1. Pay dealer $100+ for diagnostic?
2. Mail to Alpine to refurb DVD player?
3. Test with another DVD?

I have read some threads here where similar problems have been solved by having the DVD unit sent to Alpine for refurbing. For the price it may not be a bad idea to "guess" and risk it with them.

Also, I have tried "memory clear" but that did not help.

Send your unit out for repairs. It's a bad/faulty unit.

My NAVI was doing the same thing. I sent it to Alpine for a refurb. It has worked fine ever since. $158 plus shipping is what I paid. Good Luck!

Is this a common problem? Seems like it happens a lot.

Thanks to all for your input and advice. I have a 2004 TL and have recently been experiencing similar problems with the navi unit continually rebooting, recycling, and just plain old crashing. Yesterday I tried the Hands Free Link using Bluetooth. It was not functioning either. I bought a new DVD about four years back but have not updated since. Sending the unit to Alpine sounds like my best bet. Again, thanks.

14 years... I finally ran into this issue with my 2005.

1) cleaned DVD (was slightly dusty, no scratches)
2) removed DVD unit; disassembled and cleaned optical sensor with rubbing alcohol and qtip
3) reinstalled

Issue resolved itself. What I was running into is every time I turned my car on it was re-flashing/loading the unit from the DVD.

Might have been a loose connector; might have been just me simply disconnecting the unit for 5+ minutes that reset it... don't know. But after 14 years can't hurt to clean the optics; however inside of the drive was pristine in my case.
