Navigation chooses when to work

I have a 2005 wdp automatic acura tl And it has the navigation unit built in. I've never touched any wiring for the caronly had subs installed but this has been going on long before that. When you turn the car on the navigation welcone screen will pop up. The next screen to click ok after reading the warnings either comes on or doesn't. Its very bipolar. Sometimes while driving it'll turn on or off. And no its not when I hit pot holes or anything. Its just random.. also just recently it shows me on different roads then the one im actually on. Yesterday it said i was offroading... is this a manufacturer problem? Or is my navigation unit completely done for?.. opinions?

I believe if you remove the navi unit and send it to alpine they will refurb it for you. I think its a fixed price reguardless of what the issue is. If your unsuccessful in troubleshooting the issue that may be your best option.

Try ejecting the Navi disc and cleaning the lens first. There are a couple of threads about it-- standard disc type lens cleaner, v. carefully inserting cleaning cloth v. partial disassembly cleaning.

The symptoms don't point to a power problem (which usually results in Navi code request), but I'd also check the battery status and the power cables-- negative clamp & ground get loose and the positive clamp & cable often corrode.

If none of those are causes of the problem, you may be looking at sending the DVD drive to Alpine for a $358 flat repair fee.

G/L.
