Nav stays on day setting & mirrors don't adjust correctly

Just picked up a 2005 TL w/ Nav.

The day/night option for the display for Nav is set to auto but stays on daytime mode all the time(ie...it's bright all the time) Only if I switch it manually to night, will it go to night mode.

Also,

My drivers mirror always needs to be adjusted after backing up - seems as if after mirror angels down it does not come back to prior setting.

I plan to bring in for warranty. Just curious if anyone has had the same problems.

Sounds like somebody may have been playing around with some wiring behind the covers before you got the car.

Congrats and welcome to the forum.
Decrease your instrument panel brightness one notch or more below "Maximum" using the buttons on the bottom of the instrument panel. That will permit your Nav to switch modes automatically. Otherwise, the "Max" instrument panel light setting overrides the "night" mode of the Nav.
It sounds like a warranty issue if your outside mirror is not returning to the preset position after backing up. A search of the threads here will show that a couple or 3 people had repairs for clicking or grinding by the outside mirrors after changing from forward to reverse gear, or vice-versa. Not common, but has happened.

Thanks!

It worked. I can't believe I was driving at night like that. It was like driving w/ a flashlight shining in your face.

Thanks again Will.

I'll have it checked out next time I'm at dealer. It angels back when I put in drive but not to exact position - seems to be pointed down a few degrees - just a small nuisance for now

Also note that the MAX button acts as a toggle switch. Press once to turn the dash and Navi lights to maximum/day setting and press again to change back. It's useful for times when you use your headlights during the day (rain or fog, for example, or driving on a two-lane road where passing is over the center line). This way you don't lose your preferred night setting for the instrument pod.
