My HID Lights Turned PINK today????
Weird thing happen this morning. One of my HID lights went from white to pink?? I mean really pink. It looks like I have after mkt 10000k HID's...LOL
!!!
Has that happen to anyone else here? How long are these HID suppose to last. My car is an 04. So 3.5yrs isn't too long. I thought they are suppose to last longer than that.

My mom has an rsx and she put an HID kit on it about 2 years ago, i was driving it about a week ago and turned the headlights on and the passengers side one was a dull pinkish purple...hers only lasted about 2 years, but ive heard oem ones usually last about 4-5 years with regular usage.

Hey Ed - Pink (if you haven't heard by now) means that your HID bulb is on it's last leg.
Any ideas on what your planning? Just so happens I've got a set of bulbs I just pulled out of my car last week to swap for phillips bulbs.
If your interested - I'd let them go for just about nothing - I'd rather them goto someone that can use them than sit on my shelf and get thrown out in 5 years

Not always true. It just depends on what brand you get and where you get it from. Phillips are some expensive bulbs but the light output is pretty good and they are guaranteed for life(?). But Apexcone is pretty good also.

The HID's turning pink is not unusual. This effect is called colour shifting. I would in the lighting industry and have been seening this effect for years with commercial High Intensity Discharge or HID lighitng. Next time your in one of your big box stores like costco or Home Depot look up at their lighting if they have HID. Depending on the age of the lamps you might see many different colours coming out of them. Initially they will be white and then move to a shade of blue and then towards a shade of pink, like mentioned here. This happens as the gas contained within the lamp begins to be used up and is normal.
If you can get some Philips lamps that are warranteed for life then I would get them. Philips is my biggest lamp supplier and they would never give me a lifetime warranty on an HID lamp since there is no way to make a lamp that would have an endless supply of gas. Usually a lifetime warranty for a lamp means this.....A manufacturer will publish the number of hours that a lamp will last before it will begin to colour shift. This number could be 10,000 hours for eaxample and is considered the lamp life. If it should fail before this point then it is considered to be premature failure and should warranty it. This is very difficult to prove. My suggestion is always when you replace any lamps in your car that you take a permanent marker and write the day you changed out the bulb on the base. When customers bring this to me and the lamp has failed in a short period of time I always warranty it. Lifetime warranty for lamps don't mean the lifetime of the car or its driver.

Thanks for the info. But I thought HID would last more than 5yrs at least and longer than halogen lights?? I don't recall changing my halogen bulb from my previous car until I hit close to 100k's. I only have 60k in my TL right now?? Maybe mine is a defect or something.

good luck ed.
Bulbs would go from pink to red and then finally out
, btw there is nothing wrong with the ballasts. Ballasts either work or they dont and usually they dont give any sort of indication before going out.

I am hoping it is only the bulb
Will find out once I order my HID bulb replacement.
Mine started to doing this just yesterday. It was quite a quick change. 2005 TL with 42,000 miles on it. Now, when I turn the lights on they both are white, but within 30 seconds the passenger side one fades to a bright magenta. It is even pinker than it looks in the picture.
Anyone find out for sure if it is the bulb? Any idea if this stuff is covered under warranty? I realize "routine maintenance" parts are not covered under warranty, but it was my understanding that HIDs were supposed to last much longer than regular bulbs. I wonder if this could be considered premature failure? Less than 3 years is not long at all!

I feel and agree with you 100%!! I thought HID bulbs are suppose to last longer??? I guess maybe not!!
I guess I am not the only one with pink eyes!!! :gheyfight: That makes me feel much better...J/k!!!!
I talked to Acura and unfortunately they are not covered under warranty. Therefore, I have ordered a set of new HID bulbs. Just waiting for it to arrive. Will find out if in fact it is the bulb issue and not the ballast. Will keep you guys posted once HID Bulbs arrive and installed.
