My AEM Intake is whistling???? Help!
My AEM Intake is whistling???? Help!
Problem #1: I just installed the AEM cold air intake this past weekend. Everything is great except for the fact that I am getting a Whistiling sound in the 2100 to 3200 RPM range. I did a search on this topic and have found no educated solutions to this problem. Some people discussed having their Heat Shields replaced, but the AEM did not come with a Heat Shield. The whistling sounds like a bunch of crickets if you know what I mean and it is driving me
Problem #2: My intake does not properly fit flush on the throttle body (it's sort of tilted). Those with the AEM intake know that the intake is attached to the car in two locations, one location at the throttle body and the other location being the slotted clip that secures the intake to the inside of the wheel fender. if i release the clip at the fender then I can properly seat the intake flush on the throttle body. The little clip on the inside of the fender needs to be about 1" higher that it's current location. Should I drill my own hole so that I can get a secure fit or am I being to picky? I seriously doubt that any air is escaping with those two hose clamps holding it down

#1 is normal if you're talking about light acceleration. The whistling occurs in all six gears for me and is normal for the intake (read many threads on this).
#2 is remedied by loosening both mounting bolts and the hose clamp connecting the intake. Move the intake into the best position (it won't be perfect, but close), then tighten the mounting bolts while holding the intake in the desired position, then tighten the hose clamp. At least that worked for me.

One thing i did was I had to bend the pronged clip on my AEM intake in order for it to fit right onto the rubber mounting bolt. Experiment with putting the intake flush and solid onto the throttle body, then figuring out how you need to bend those prongs to make it fit.... easily done just be careful of the welds.
1. I've got that whistling too. Drives me nuts when the windows are down. But from everything I've read it seems like everyone has it. Guess that's the price we pay for a little performance. Although I do wish moving it a little would magically fix it. Maybe the Comptech cat back will help mask that
2. I noticed that it didn't sit flush as well. I just used the large hose that connects it to the throttle body as an angled transition piece. I think it works OK.
