My car is making humzzz sound at 5th gear between 50-65 mpg. Any idea?

Very vague explanation. Just humming. I know it's hard to explain sounds somtimes. How many miles. Base, type s. Manual or auto trans. I'm assuming it is a auto trans as not many tl' are manual. Does it only happen in 5th, possibly starts in 4th. Has the trans fluid been changed by you or changed at all, trans fluid color. Red and clear or darker red not so much clear. Does it smell burnt? I know a lot of questions, try and answer best that you can.
