14mpg sounds ridiculous for a 3gTL, even for pure city driving. Unless you're flooring the car everytime you take off, you should be getting around 19-20mpg average, but i don't think you're flooring it, right? =D

I have an 08 TL type s and i'm getting 23 ciry 29 hwy, i noticed my mileage go down during the winter time because my tires wern't properly inflated. Try going with 33psi rear 36 psi front when tires are cold, see if that helps a little.
You've seen your MPG display say 29MPG? I just shed a lot of weight off the car, drove it like a grandma and the most I got to see was 26mpg on my readout. My tires are inflated to 38 front 35 rear. I was actually THRILLED when it went to 26 !!!!!

o.k.. update. I just managed to get 31mpg on my 07 type S. Crazy as it sounds, I went from averaging 20mpg to hwy 31mpg by shedding a few lbs off the car and doing the 3x3 tranny fluid change. I used amsoil. I'm so psyched I was able to get my mpg up there. I've had one grip w/ this car and it's been the mpg I get. Now I'm happy

You can't gain 11mph from swapping the trans fluid and removing some weight. In fact, weight has very little to do with mpg when you're talking steady state down the freeway.

well.. I don't live in the city.. I'm more of a highway driver (long island expressway). I did reset the trip meter and it was all highway miles, but I had never seen my mpg go anywhere near 31.. ever.. even when taking the same trip in the past. Same trip / same driving habits before any of the work I did, I was averaging 26 mpg. so technically it was a 5 mpg increase. By the time I got home (about 10 mins of non hwy side roads) it was down to 29
