Motor Mounts??

Hey my car has 64000 miles and vibrates while in idle, especially when the motor is cold. Could it be mad motor mounts? If so, what happens if I don't replace them soon?

I ran on a bad motor mount for many months........ Not the best idea as you are now putting more stress on the other mount. They say its best to change all mounts at the same time since they basically wear at the same time but who has money for that?!!! Drive carefully and when you can replace it, do it. Its a cheap fix.

Most likely it's the mounts, and most likely it's the rear mount. This happens when you accelerate from a stop too fast and the engine shifts to the rear mount. The rear mount is a pain to do but I did it when I replaced all of them. That should solve your problem, by replacing it. Remove all the plastic covers near the window and remove the strut bar. Support the engine with a jack and wood, then remove the mount. It's 5 bolts, 1 in each corner then one right through the middle of the mount on the side, and remove vacumm hose on the bottom. Easier with car on jack stands too so you access the hose from the bottom. Have small open wrenchs and small sockets and long extensions.

they run as fast as you can... haha..kidding- rear mount is about 150.00 for an employee price discount..( higher without a " good friend who works there), but.. aftermarket units are cheaper..
but are not as well built as oem. ( honda) the reason- they are hydraulic( fluid filled) best bet is honda- but reinforce the lower base area with roofing polyurethane to build a more stable support..before you install..there is a thread in here or another forum for this. send me a pm for forum name.

Is it possible to remove the rear mount without removing the strut bar? I cant seem to get mine off because I have almost stripped one of the bolts.. Hmm.

Maybe you can if you have access to a lift but it's still a pain, Removing the strut bar allows you to fit the wrench and extensions without it you going to have to work your arms around the strut bar which can be difficult.

Usually the front one goes and the side one goes with it or vice versa.

Do a power brake and see if you feel a clunk.

I agree with Spider. Pull off the passenger side engine cover and you can visually inspect the motor mount. It'll be pretty obvious if its bad.

When you say "power brake" do you mean stab the brake pedal hard?

The opposite actually. Hold the brake and stab the gas but don't go crazy with it. Just hit 1.5k-2k rpms. Better yet, have someone else do it and watch the engine for excessive movement.

And look for a brown fluid near the mount itself. It could be dried up or still wet.
