Mileage Fraud
Mileage Fraud
I recently picked up an ‘06 6MT TL for next to nothing with an odometer that reads 126k miles but the carfax report shows it had 260k a few years ago.
My question is if anyone knows whether the true mileage is stored in the ECU or the immobilizer or something like that, and if it’s possible to obtain it with a scan tool or something along those lines.
I can read the vin of the ECU with my scan tool and it matches the chassis and title, so if it’s stored there I should have it. As far as I can tell someone just swapped clusters and registered it as mileage exempt somehow.
I called my local Acura dealer and they basically told me there was nothing they could do about it which I find hard to believe but I’m not gonna argue over the phone with some shmuck at the service desk.
I searched around about this but most forum posts I came across seemed to be posted by the folks who were looking to do what was done to my car, not fix it. But if this question has been legitimately answered before please link that post and I’ll delete this one.
Thanks in advance!
Next time you know to buy carfax in advance.
Thankfully I ran the carfax before I bought the car, and managed to negotiate it to a price I was more than happy with, I simply want to correct the odometer for my own peace of mind
