Mechanic overfilled my properly filled power steering resevoir today

I have a slow leak in my power steering system so am very careful to keep the reservoir at the max line.
I went in for new tires today and the shop told me I had a power steering pump leak and gave me a 700 dollar quote to fix it. I later noticed they also added about half an inch of PS fluid to the reservoir.
Im going to turkey baster the excess out tomorrow. Would I be ok with the mystery PS fluid that got mixed or should I Turkey baster it all out. The fluid on top is still clear so it didit mixed too much

My question is why add to a filled reservoir especially with non Acura fluid. First time using these guys and dont have a great feeling about their sales tactics so far based on the tire sale

I’m curious, did they itemize the $700 quote? It’s like a $150 part and couldn’t be more than 2 hours labor. Also, just curious what’s wrong with using a compatible fluid?

Beyond the ridiculous price, it is probably just the o-rings that need replacing. The pump doesnt make any weird sounds and the P/S works fine. They also missed my leaking rack even though they redid the front links and installed two new front tires.

Apparently any non Honda fluid can damaged the seals. Non OEM fluid for Hondas may or may not be OK. Why chance it

man 400bucks for a new pump as opposed to just replacing the o rings for a total of MAYBE 20 bucks is crazy... but hey.. you gotta pay for knowledge

Their labor doesn’t seem too far off but are their parts made out of 24k gold?! Over $400 for timing belt and water pump parts? $24 per spark plug? $75 for a serpentine belt? It seems like they’re doubling what the price of the part should actually be.

It seems to be a Boston thing where they charge more than OEM prices and then give you Chinese knock-offs.

If you're in the Boston area and need a good mechanic, it's worth the drive to Middletown to Mai Mechanic. Steve is hands down the best independent mechanic I have ever used. Also a Honda/Acura master tech. You will not be disappointed or ripped off. I drive from CT to have him do big jobs for me that are out of my league.

With that being said, I would flush the fluid and reseal that pump. There's a really good write up on the forums and the parts are cheap from Acura.
