Manual Transmission Shift Question

I know someone who has a '04TL 6MT, and whenever he upshifts during normal acceleration, while the clutch is depressed, the engine speed seems to pause at the ideal/correct rpm as it's dropping (due to letting go of the gas pedal) for a split second, as if it knows the exact rpm necessary for the vehicle speed and next higher gear selected. I personally have never seen anybody else have this happen. Was I imagining things?

Ive never seen this on a tl, maybe he was blipping the gas pedal? The Civic SI has something like that though, it holds rpms.

My 05 MT absolutely does this and there are plenty of other reports of it happening. There are a few popular ideas behind this. Many think it is the ECU holding the engine up for a second to keep emissions in spec others are convinced it is to aid in shifting. Whatever the reasons it's very interesting and unlike any other MT I've had.

I notice it most when shifting from 4->5 and 5->6. That's probably because the RPM gaps are smaller as the gears go up.

Saw a posted article (C&D ?) that listed "Rev Matching" as a feature of the 6MT TL they had in the test.
