LOUD irregular engine knocking

Hey guys,

I did a 2 hour trip and when I got home into my quiet neighbourhood I noticed a very loud knocking sound coming from the engine bay as if something is being thrown around.

This is the sound it makes:

It's irregular and not constant. When I'm driving I don't hear it, but that may be because my exhaust.
I hear it when I start up the car and when it's idling like at a stop light.
It's very loud, and my video probably doesn't show it justice but I'll try to start up my car again tomorrow and see how it sounds.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

Remove serpentine belt, see if the sounds is still there. Check for loose plugs. Remove timing belt covers, check timing belt tension and belt tensioner.

My first thought when I heard your video was serpentine belt tensioner. Probably worse at idle...right? When the one on our CR-V went I could watch the tensioner shake pretty good every time the noise happened. Watch the tensioner in your car and see if it goes a bit "nuts" every time you hear the noise.

Also check harmonic balancer as they have been know to separate and hit when turning.

Thank you gentlemen!

I will check out the belt.

I do think that when I turn my wheel it has an effect on the knocking sound!

Like to update, I pulled the serpentine belt and the noise was gone. You guys are geniuses! All last night I was looking for a new engine.

I ordered a Gates tensioner assembly and will put it on tomorrow to see if the noise is gone.
I am just worried the noise isn't gone and it ends up being some other thing on the side of the engine run by the belt. If the noise is still there, I'm happy that at least I have a new belt tensioner in.
