hesitation under hard acceleration

hesitation under hard acceleration
I have a 2004 acura tl 6 speed. I notice when I merge onto the high way, there is a hesitation under very hard acceleration but normal acceleration if you do a more gradual acceleration. Only mod is a CAI. Any thoughts??
