Question Loud click when switching in to Reverse speed.

I notice that there is a loud click when I switch the gears from Drive to Reverce. Is that normal? I would not think so.

Is the click coming from the gearbox area/shifter or somewhere else? I've been hearing a nosie and finally figured out that it was the mirror tilting down. Instead of the usual "running noise" the motor makes when moving the mirror it seems to be off track or something...because it clicks on the way down. (only on passenger side)

I have the AT and it is definetly coming from the gear box. I also spoke to service manager and he said that is normal. I hope this is normal.

Can anyone else confirm the behavior?

Thanks.

I notice it. And you can really notice it if you try and put it in reverse while the car is still moving forward slightly.

Anybody think it takes too long for the transmission to engage drive or reverse? Seems a little long compared to other cars I have had.

when i had tranny probs with my 03 the click got worse, but it came new with my 06. my 1st thought was it's supposed to do that & then i imagined i might go through tranny issues in the future. i also noticed that the reverse roll or torque is a bit weak compared to my 2g. i have to pump the gas to back up an incline w/o rolling fwd.

is that after u clean the mirror & click it off track, or all the time?

It normal, I had a 01 TL b4 i got the 3gen and the 2gen made a click sound when going to reverse. I believe this is the sound of the reverse idler gear sliding into place.

My left mirror was just replace because the movement was not smooth and you could hear CLAC CLAC CLAC. It's not specially after a wash. But i was wondering if high pressure wash toward inside the morror could damage the mecanism.

I have a 04 and have the same noise. Although, mine is so loud I would call it a "slap". Took it to the dealer, they said it's normal; everything feels fine.

I thought i was the only one! .. the tl sure is slow moving between drive and reverse and vise versa ... i find my self waiting for that "feeling" when the car has just changed gears.
