So, Idiotically I lost my car key a few days back, and I am 99% sure it will never show back up.

I called the dealer and they want $110 for a new key, and $110 for programming.

I've seen the instructions online on how to program the key.

So, can I buy one and then program it myself? Will the dealer cut it and then I can just program them on my own?

Or am I better off just letting them do the whole process? Figure if I can program on my own and save $110 that would be nice.

Anyone go through the process or can share some tips?

My car is a 2008 Acura TL.

 

Talk to Marcus at Heeltoe.com he has the key fobs and he can even cut it for you. As far as programming I heard some people can have them programmed by your local locksmiths for like 20-40. Hope that helps

 

Not sure if the programming instructions changed in 2008, but they are posted on the site so I figured I'd try those, anyone know if they still work?

Can a key be cut by the code on the back, or is the original required? Or is it cut by the vin or something like that?

 

My friend lost 2 master key. I had it order for him from Honda and then he had it cut and programmed at the dealer. I think cut and programmed was about $120 or $150 if I recalled. You need to bring in your car as well. If you lost your key 3 times then you can't reprogram the key anymore. You need to change all the locks from the car. So don't lost it after your second time.
