I parked my car on the streets - parallel parking - and I think the car behind me hit my bumper when s/he is trying to get out. Anywho, there isn't a scratch that I can see on the bumper, but the "Left Rear Tail light Plastic Cover" cracked and came off...

I don't think it would be that expensive since it's just the transparent plastic cover that came off...Do you guys know how much it would cost to have it repaired?

Also, can I do it myself? If possible... If I have to do it myself, where can I buy the parts for it?

From what you are saying, the cover cracked and you need a replacement. Sorry, but I have bad news, that is an entire assembly as part of the tail-light, you will need a new one. I would think that you have an 07+ TL as those have clear lenses. Call up tim at hondaacuraworld dot com and he will get you an awesome price on a new one. IF you want, you can take advantage of this situation and upgrade to some TL-S tail-lights.

The installation is pretty straight-forward. If you are not afraid to take your rear bumper off, you can do it. There are many instructions on how to do it here.

Make sure when your order the lights that the LED boards are NOT ordered, you can re-use your old ones. Those are 200 dollars themselves, and you don't need additional unnecessary costs.

 

Thanks for the reply. I mean really? Can't I buy that plastic cover from a junk shop or after market parts? Here's a photo of what it looks like... The tail light is still working, just the clear plastic cover that cracked.

 

that cover is melted into place as an assembly. You can't just replace it on the 3rd gen TL.

 

forgive my ignorance... but what do you call that thing that I need?

If I go to the parts shop to get the regular tail lights (not the TL-S), what do I say? what do I buy? (is there some fancy mechanical term for it)... now I know to say do not include the LED board (not sure what it is..hehe)...but what else?

Also, I hate going to collision shops, because sometimes they do try to rip people off... so any tips as well?

Like I said, call up TIM at hondaacuraworld dot com. Tell him you are from acurazine and need either the Base TL tail-light left or tell him you want the TL-S lamps. Here is a link to buy the TL-S lamps from their website:

He will sell you the tail-light for the lowest price, and you know it's OEM so it will be covered by the acura warranty. Don't go to a bodyshop to have them order it, they will just rip you off.
