Do you and your passengers all wear wallet chains?

Get a quote from a leather upholstery shop; they only need to fix the seat cushion covers.

swap it out for one @ a junkyard it'll be way cheaper than going to a dealership

Call a local upholstery shop. They can just replace that one panel and is should be pretty cheap. It might not look like the others at first (new looking), but after a few rides, it will start to blend in.

If you have more that looks like it might tear soon, you can use a repair kit that will buy you some time - they really don't work all that well though IMO, but they are OK.

I just talked to an upholstery shop about the seat bottom covers. He showed me samples of Japanese leather (from a lexus), American leather, Italian leather. Once a tear starts in the Japanese leather, it takes very little effort to keep ripping it apart. By comparison, the other leather samples were really difficult to rip even with an existing tear. I'm hesitate to get a replacement seat bottom, even new OEM (JDM) because the japanese leather just doesn't hold up over time. I'm tempted to see if the shop can match the color with better quality leather.

Just did this with our Camel interior 05. They replaced the front lower section of the driver seat with a new patch panel. The perforated material & color looked spot on and wasn't all that expensive. The repair to the seat (including material & labor) was less expensive than the replacement panel from any of the online Acura part wholesalers not including installation.

Should be picking the car up tonight

Sounds great! Would you care to share your price quote. I have an 05 TL with a camel interior and would consider doing this in the near future.

I would like to know to, my car has a small tear in the bottom of the seat as well (from previous owner). On the perforated part of course. I'm planning to get it fixed soon.

Maybe the wallet chain problem has already become a epidemic to our seats?

Judging by the pics you've been neglecting your seats for quite some time now anyways

Whoa, that's great! How did they go about finding something with the matching color. Do they have more of that leather? Can you send me your (and the shop too) contact info so I can see if they can get some to me and my shop? I have the camel color interior too and my biggest concern has been finding the right color.

And post pics too!

Got the car back today and it really turned out pretty good! I am super picky and even I cannot distinguish between the panels in the lower seat to know what was replaced and what was not. There was one thing that bugged me a little but wasn't something I felt warranted complaining as most people will never notice. When they patched the front section of the seat bottom they butted the patch panel down by the plastic which basically created a new seam. I looks like it could have been a factory seam but I know that it is not supposed to be there. When sitting in the seat and looking down you don't even see it and only notice if you are inspecting the seat. Pictures might make more sense while I'll post tomorrow.

I think the panel replacement was around $600 & I also paid to have the passenger & driver seat re-dyed as the dealer the 2nd owner purchased the car from apparently did a crappy dye job which I started removing when I cleaned the seats upon purchasing (total spent, $850). I wish I had some before pictures but don't think I took any which is unfortunate because you can't get an idea of how bad the seats looked. The passenger side was looking pretty bad. The side bolster was showing bare leather where all the color was gone. It was very strange as I thought the leather on the 05s was dyed all the way through. Anyway. I'll post up photos tomorrow for whatever it is worth.

Marietta Auto Trim did the work. Charles, the owner, ordered the material for me and could easily order more if needed. They are not cheap but one of the only places in the North/Metro Atlanta area I knew of and somewhat trusted. I have a friend who works there and re-did the entire interior of my Chevelle as a side job. Unfortunately he does not sew or dye seats so I had to pay the shop price on this one.

I don't have the extra cash right now to get an upholsterer to fix my seats. But until I put duck tape under the rip (between the foam and leather sticky side up) and its held it together nicely, not obvious and it also hasn't ripped any more.
