Leather Looks Like It Melted

Today I took a glance at my front drivers seat and noticed that a small section of the leather looks melted. How is this possible? Has anyone else experience anything similar? Do you think this covered under warranty and will they have to replace the entire seat? thanks

Yes, this has been brought up several times in the past. Warranty will/should definitely cover it... I'm not sure if anyone has ever posted the "actual" reason for this melting leather.....

What was wrong on the 04s to cause the seats to melt anyway? What did they fix?

here is what items i have replaced or replacing in 04 TL

If you have read my thread then let me just give you a brief description on what melted in the 04 TL. Well first it was the driver side bottom section got deteriate (melted) so they put in 05 seats with pads and new seat heaters for me for both front seats. A month later my arm rest started to do the same thing so while they were placing the order for my arm rest..took about a month but i think they just forgot to call me then the back seats of my car did the same thing...melted looks...so now the TL at the dealer waiting for 05 back seats...ahhh...

Call American Honda's Consumer affairs at 1-800-382-2238 and select option 3. Make sure you have your vehicle identification number to report the seat problem. They will then assign you to a case worker in which they will have your vehicle inspected at the dealer. I have the same problem with my leather front seats. They look like if they have melted. My next step is calling their Legal Department to form this some kind of class action lawsuit. Good luck.

Given that Acura is aware of this problem on the 04 models and various people have posted threads on this forum about having to replace their front and back seats due to the "melting" issue, I would have the dealership replace all seats at the same time.

From your post, your other seats are not showing the melting issue. Therefore, this may require the dealership getting approval from Acura to replace all the seats. I would call Acura and fight to have them replace the all the seats in the 04 model versus waiting until another seat starts showing the melting look from normal use.

Good luck!

seat melting

As for me...the passenger side seats were not melted...i mean if u take a manifying glass and look at it maybe u see a small little spot but i didnt even complant about that seat to the service person...I am gonna against the idea of replacing everything because it gonna look "ugly...loose" unless it is factory installed leather...i mean maybe not as bad but wont be so perfect so unless you have a problem dont get it replace...as for the front seats you gonna need pads...heater units as well..

My dealer said my warranty piece came in today. I asked the tech will I be getting an entire new seat? He said, "no, i'm getting a seat cover." I left it as that until I go back to the dealer to see it for myself. Does anyone know how this seat cover will look once placed on my seat? Will it look like the original seat? Should they replace the entire seat, anyone has opinions and thnx.

The new cover may not fit as tight as the original. It may bunch more in some areas. I say may because it my fit as well. My delaer warned me about it prior to replacement and he was right - not horrible but not as tight and flush as the original. He will replace it again, not due to fit, but because the leather grain on one of the panels was way off.
