Leather Issues

I have only had my car for 2 and a half months and the leather on the front drivers seat is not holding up well at all. Compared to my friends G35 which he got at the same time as i did, my leather is beginning to look like crap.

ugh you too? Mine did the same. Get it checked out at the dealer, they should take care of it depending on its condition. Good luck man!

Have you started to clean and condition it?

These are known issues for the 3G. I had my driver's seat cover replaced because it started to lose its color in a few places. Dealer replaced it under warranty.

I condition the shit out of my leather w/ Zaino.

Have not conditioned it. I didnt think a car with 1700 miles on it would need conditioning. The leather look nice when its new but i can tell there are going to be some issues.

Did you start Zainoing before or after the dealer replaced the seat?

I had the same problem with my seat. They replaced the whole seat under warranty so I would definitely check with your dealer. I had almost 45,000 miles on the car by the time I got the driver's seat replaced.

The leather is garbage in the TL guess they had to cut costs somewhere. Mine looked looked good when I got rid of it though. I conditioned them every 2-3 months with Lexol.

Bought my 05 TL used in April. One panel of the driver's seat was worn out. The previous owner must've worn a big leather belt. Anyway, I took it to the dealer last week, they took a picture of it, sent it to Acura, and they approved the replacement under warranty.

No after pics yet, although they did a great job putting it in. No creases or wrinkles like some horror stories I've heard. Took half a day, and they gave me a loaner 07 WDP MDX NAV. I was impressed with how that thing drives (for an SUV), but was happy to get back in my TL!

the TL has real leather, thats why it wears so quickly. the 04-06 tl uses Pigmented/Protected/Top Coated/Painted leather, the 07+ uses Aniline leather, identification info can be found here: http://www.leatherworldtech.com/Leat...ification.aspx

The leather wears as you leg hits the side bolsters and crease them. It is natural leather's characteristics.

Oops, just to clarify my previous post: It took about a month and a half after I first took it in for them to get the part in and call me to schedule an appointment. Also this is the lower part of the seat back (lumbar area).

I had an '05 and the leather was garbage. The leather in my moms VW is better thna this and the leather in my '06 RSX-S kills that of what was in my TL as far as quality is concerned. Hell my friends g35x has better quality leather than that was found in my 05. The stuff in my TL was like Pleather and while it might have been real leather like one should expect in this type of car it was the thinnest cheapest leather they could find with a plastic like top layer. So my = GARBAGE!

The only problem I have with the leather in mine, is the the psg. seat has a bulge. It is like there is an extra piece of foam under the leather. I haven't brought it in yet, I have way too many other problems that they need to fix first. When I start to see the lines in the bolsters turning color, I wipe them down with conditioner. No other problems.

Can anybody suggest where to go from here? The first time my 04 TL has ever been in cold weather, the front passenger seat ripped in two spots when I sat in it to get something out of my glovebox. Took it to the dealer today and they told me that my warranty expired 13 days ago!!! So now they want $700 to replace the front seat cover. Any suggestions on what I should do? At least to keep it from getting worse? Cause now it is just connecting the dots and allowing the tear to grow.

Try another dealership. If they are a good dealership they will "goodwill" warranty it. Ask to speak to a manager to see if there is anything they can do for you.

I have had a 04 TL, 06 TL and 07 Tl and now a 08 Type-S. The leather in the Type-S is horrible. I have 3800 miles and the passengaer seat only gets used 1-2 days a week for a short while and it was creased and bulging. they replaced seat bottome and back leather, but the bottom is not right ir has bulges and creases out of the packagaing, the back is alse not a tight fit so it creased immedialty. The drivers seats leather is also begining to show marks and wear. I'll be going back soon to get passenger seat replaced agaion and have them log my issues with drivers seat, but will hold off on that one for a few months.
Very dissapointed as my 04 had 37K on it when I got rid of it and leather looked fine.

Condition the leather, you want slick leather to avoid the leather peeling. Less friction = less wear.
