Knocking problem when cold
Knocking problem when cold
Hey guys,
I noticed on my 07 TL that im getting knocking when the car is cold, and it on the passenger side. I though it could be power staring pump, well I got that taken care of, it was the seals so I have replaced the item it was a cake, but now when the car is cold it still knocks, and when its warms up it goes away... Some times even when its cold doesn't do it.. its wired and strange,... what could it be?

Just to add, when you remove the belt you'll have the battery light illuminate on the dash board.
but yes, follow Turbonut advice. That will help you narrow it down if its a pulley.
Pully has been replaced, also i only use premium, What i didnt know my engine takes OIL!!! i dont know if thats normal on these engines or not, mine is 07 with 85k miles on it... soon timing belt will need to be replaced.
I added half q of 10w30 oil and it got a lot quieter...

i agree i don't think 1/2 a quart is going to make a difference it would hv to be down at least 2 qts to hear anything. if you want to rule out external accesories wait till its making the noise and shut off immediately and take the belt off to see if there is a difference. i don't recall having any harmonic balancer issues with honda's of any kind. but that could make a knocking noise.
I just got my oil change done on my car, decided to go little thicker due to mileage on the car.. the i went with 10w30
The noise is still there, little less i will say... but its f-ing wired only when its cold, but when it warms up, problem goes away.. wired as hell and drives me nuts! I have a feeling i will need to take it in and adjust the lifters.

Is it a constant knock? When mine is cold and I am accelerating with the wheel cranked in either direction (as if pulling out of a parking spot or parking lot), I get a knocking sound until I straighten the wheel back out. Sounds like its coming from the wheel assembly or axel.....sounds like you're experiencing something different
Ticking will be low oil.
Whens the last time you did an oil change?
Knocking will either be your serpentine belt or timing belt. If it's coming from that area. Powersteering pumps do NOT knock they just whine when low on fluid or are failing.
Maybe your tensioner is all the way out and is no longer good so the belt is being flimsy. Harmonic balancer aka crank pulley can also make the noise. But you would also hear that when you just run the car and it would be all the time. Could also be in your timing area.
Best to take it to a mechanic.
